Re: Cross-dominant grips work better?
Yeah, me too. Right eye-right hand, and the dot/sights are pointing left when I raise the pistol. I have tried different grips, and adding putty to the right rear of the grip. adding putty helps, but it pushes my hand off the anatomical grip, and makes me wrap-around which I don't like either. This ...

Re: Question on pistol practice
7 yards is what most people consider a home defense distance . So if you can keep your shots inside a man sized target at 7 yards, you are probably accurate enough for home defense. However, you probably will not notice any aiming errors at that short range. Distance magnifies errors, so if you prac...

Re: Better groups on blank target
My guess ( and that's all it is ), is that when you are firing on a blank target, you are concentrating on a good release. When you add in a target, you are trying to make the release happen when you know it will be a ten. Resulting in a jerk. Maybe only a little jerk, but still enough to enlarge th...

Re: Bullseye Competition Shooting
"NRA Precision Pistol" is alive, and well. It used to be called " Bullseye Pistol", and is shot with .22, and center fire pistols, one handed, at 25, and 50 yards, "Small bore rifle" is shot with .22 rimfire rifles. "High power rifle" is shot with center fire ...

Twelfth Precinct Pistol & Archery club in Harwood Md. might be just what you are looking for. They have twice weekly outdoor Bullseye league, and a indoor air pistol range.
Between Twelfth Precinct, and reading here, I think you are set.....Jim

Welcome Bob.
I'm glad to see that you have joined a pistol club as well reading this forum.
I believe you will improve, plus have more fun, if you are shooting pistol leagues, and 2700 matches.
Good luck and have fun in your new hobby.

Re: Well, the quarentine hasn't been ALL bad
Mike, my progress has made a U turn also. I think everyone improves, then hits a plateau, and maybe even backs up, before they improve some more. In my case, I think I was getting too aggressive on the trigger ( jerking when the sight picture was just right ), so I went back to a blank backwards tar...

Well, the quarentine hasn't been ALL bad
This past February at my local Air Pistol match, I came down with a severe case of anticipation/trigger jerk. It started from the first shot, and continued on through most of the following 59 shots, and I could not stop the anticipation wiggle. I could hold the sights in my normal sub-six area as we...

Re: Rimfire vs Air - is there a "better" choice?
Son, you have to shoot the sport you like best. Air pistol will always be cheaper ammo, quieter, cheaper matches, and sometimes have the convenience of shooting at home. But if, like me, you LOVE precision pistol, A. P. will never quite satisfy.

Re: High $ ammo
Eley Tenex gave me the smallest group when I tested (Ransom Rest) my .22 ( some years ago ). Try a box of Tenex yourself, and I think you will find that spending three times as much for ammo, does not improve your shooting nearly as much as proper training. Holding drills, dry fire drills, cost noth...

Re: High Standard Thumbrest grips?
That is a decision only you can make. Back when I was an expert my High Standard trophy did not have thumb rest grips. And it shot fine for me. I liked it much better than my mod.41, which did have a thumb rest grip. The thumb rest mod.41 became my back up gun. Still is, except now it's my back up,b...

Re: how to cock an SSP in match environment?
I switch to a position that allows me to cock with the pistol pointed downrange, then switch back to my shooting stance. I am confident in my ability to re-assume a shooting stance, so I don't think this causes me any problems. But since I am only a marksman class shooter, I could be wrong. That is ...

JohnC, 12th Precinct pistol club in Harwood Md. has informal indoor AP on Wed. evenings. It might be closer to you than PA.
They also have nra/ussa matches there monthly, unfortunately the February match was canceled due to a power outage.

................apparently Nelsons phone doesn't have a keypad to call someone back. That has not been my experience. Larry Nelson has always returned my calls. Re: Controlling a shaky hold/pistol choice questions
You are correct. A longer sight radius allows a more precise aim. And the longer barrel will stabilize the bullet more. However, I know that I will never shoot well enough to notice the difference. I also know that my long barrel Trophy is not keeping me from shooting that well. Shoot what you have....

Re: Controlling a shaky hold/pistol choice questions
My first comment is that the long flutted barrel, is no more accurate than the 5 inch barrel. I tested a trophy with a long barrel, and a victor with a short barrel in a ransom rest years ago, and the short ( 5 inch ) victor was slightly more accuate at 50 yards with eley 10x. I think if you work on...

Re: UN Arms Treaty - Does It affect us?
Of course it will. Those who agree to it can ban the sale, import, or export of any arm they want. Or anyting they want to call an arm. It is only binding on those countries that have signed the treaty, but you can imagine the financial presure that will be used to bring non-signatories into the agre...

Well I got sucked into Bullseye by some guys at the local range, and THIS happened. I've seen worse. And I have worked with some Boeing engineers here in md. before. At least you got the urge to hacksaw something out of your system. So now you have a gun that works for you, and you are shooting 90'...

Re: I need a very reliable 22 for bullseye compitition.
I am overwhelmed by the positive results this question produced. I started out with a pistol that would not fire 20 rounds without a couple of failures ( after 20 years of flawless service ). And now it is feeding, firing, and ejecting CCI SV, Wolf, Sk std +, just like it is supposed to. To top it o...
