Thanks guys. David, your response seems to ring a bell as to what the fellow w/the Pardini said.

Now anyone know the "standard" for dryfire w/the GSP?

Dryfire plugs - more to it than I thought? And GSP dryfire?

I always thought the simple strip/plugs like Larry's sells were adequate. Thin enough that the slide nearly closes. Then when I purchased a Benelli a year or so back, it's dryfire plug was a substantial spacer that held the bolt open about 1/4 of the way. I saw similiar on a fellow's Pardini a while...

What's "entry-level" for shooting smallbore?

If soMeone were looking to start shooting pistol competitively, they might grab a Ruger MKII with a red dot, and shoot NRA bullseye.

What's the equvalent for one looking to get into competing with a .22 rifle?

If I recall, UM22 was their "cream of the crop". I thought they had stopped making it, but I see it on their site, as well as at a distrib (albeit out of stock). At $15/50rds it sure isn't cheap. I'd probably go with one of the euro brands for that price. I don't dabble in the very pricey ...

The GSP might very well be a good candidate for your large hand/short fingers, Russ. I tried one recently and despite a proper size grip, my long, thin fingers seemed to reach into the trigger area too much. I'd call the trigger/grip relationship "more compact" than most other target guns....

Have you tried a Benelli MP95? I've never shot a IZH35 to compare to Benelli's I've had, but I think the Benelli fills at least 3 of your 4 requirements. reliable , ideally cheap , feel like the IZH, and good enough for bullseye work The Beneli trigger, while very decent, won't be up to spec with th...

Ditto on what Mike S said above about availability of 30mm rings. I recently had to buy a set for an extra 30mm dot, and despite many local shops with great selections of rings, they had near nothing in 30mm... I had to order. I also shoot indoor Bullseye and tried changing to the 30mm when it was t...

I don't believe the Volquartsen MKIII grips come in lefty. However I know that when the MKIII's came out, folks used the MKII grips with some Dremel work - I'd guess for the mag release. Here's a great source for Volquartsen parts. MKII lefty grip here: http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Scree...

Colt 1911 - Series 70 versus 80 ???

From a functional/accuracy, well.... overall perspective... is it correct that the 70 is the preferred gun? I've never owned a 1911, so I won't know the difference. Guess my question is... Is $1,000 better spent on a new series 80, or a used 70 (Gold Cup is what I'm looking at). And yes, I realize t...

Have you field-stripped it and given it a good cleaning/light oiling? In my experience, these guns will shoot just about anything. Except for maybe some of the subsonic stuff. One "sleeper" for my MKII was Federal Automatch, available at Walmart of all places. About $13.50/325 rounds. And ...

Curious, what gun/s are you shooting? It never bothered me a bit until I moved to my first pistol with a raked grip (Benelli MP95). It quickly got quite bothersome. I ended up selling the Benelli for that reason - only to find out shortly thereafter that I was gripping it much harder than necessary....

As mentioned, hard to go wrong with the Pardini. The ergonomics of it seem to fit most folks very well, and the trigger is adjustable enough, that you can make it feel just about however you want. I stepped through the same pistols as you, in my brief bullseye career. Exceptions being brief stints w...

Dry-firing options for Smith 41?

Seems as though the slide has to basically be closed in order for the trigger to be pulled. Not even the thin hammerli plugs/strips work. How do others do it? A spent case works, but they're a pain to get in and eject each time it's cycled (obviously). You'd think a purpose built target pistol would...

I like to first sight the gun in, dead-center, from a solid rest. (My range has U-shaped, carpet-padded wood rests for the barrel, then I use a sandbag under the grip.) Good ammo shoots a ragged hole, so it's quite solid, and thus good for ammo testing, too. From there I just shoot a relay or two of...

I've had two MP95's (same gun minus the adj trigger and Nills grips). I was very pleased with their functioning and accuracy. They shot exceptionally well with Aguila Rifle Match (Pistol match not nearly as good for whatever reason). I hear Wolf is very accurate in them, too. Never bothered to try m...
