Re: Super Lube Mystery Failure

There is a lot of overthinking going on here. That said, there are many types of o ring. Steyr are green from memory(?). That may indicate they are hydrogenated nitrile, which is petroleum lubricant resistant. Where as Morini are black, which may indicate they are nitrile, viton or epdm and may swel...

Re: Morini Trigger Issue

Never heard of this before, first thoughts were an electrical short or bridging issue causing batteries to drain, and also not to give the full voltage to the capacitor that feeds the solenoid. Have you started using a new lubricant, one that may be conductive that has found its way to where it shou...

Re: Group size shrinks when cylinder pressure falls

Hi Martyn, Got to say if your average mean radius is 13mm, I would not be complaing.... If that is the external radius you are holding a 10.3 size group. The Olympics and World Records await.... But if we assume I am misunderstanding your measurements... As the cylinder pressure drops there should b...

Re: General Starting point for shooting glasses

In the shooting position, the lens should be square to the target, ie not at an angle. You should be looking through the centre of the lens. You have adjustment to make this posible without moving your head position. The blinder also needs to be central, so get the lens right first then adjust the b...

Re: Arm/shoulder exercises or not?

No worries; but as other say, don't try to 'ramp up' too quickly. It seems easy to do, but muscles, tendons, the sheaths/membranes around the muscles and all the bits and bobs that make up the most complicated joint in the body (the shoulder) develop at different rates. And you are only as fit as th...

Re: Arm/shoulder exercises or not?

There are fundamentally two muscle types - Fast and Slow twitch. For precision shooting you need slow twitch (less powerful, but capable of repeated and extended usage - think of a marathon runner versus a sprinter). We are all naturally pre-disposed with more slow or fast twitch muscles; but all ca...

Re: my Walther LP300: first few shots' velocities are slower

My bet is over zealous oiling. The oil acts as a damper on the hammer speed resulting in reduced air release and thus lower velocity. Two or three shots in, the oil is 'wiped' and velocity is stable. Until you take a ten minute break, the oil seeps back, and the problem is there again. Strip, clean,...

Re: Steyr LP50 trigger

Thanks all! Should I stop worrying and just go for it? In my opinion, yes. But you know your level of mechanical competence. The trigger mechanism is pretty simple - I suggest you try to draw it to make sure you understand what each screw does - if you cant do that, I suggest you don't touch. Be ca...

Hi Nick, did try to reply, but kept getting errors when posting.

New Morning is already broken for parts, that's what it is for, spares... Just got the electronics with me this weekend.

What and where are you doing in Englandshire? Get together for a spot of training in my part of the world?

Re: long and short sight base

Conventional wisdom is: The longer the sight radius, the easier it is to see angular errors and therefore should be more accurate. BUT The more you can see the errors the harder it is to accept and so confidence to fire is reduced and you tend to hang on and performance suffers. Shorter radius is ea...

Re: Steyr LP50 trigger

OK, looks like different things being confused here. First post asks about second stage travel. Travel. Not weight. That is the screw that adjust the sear let off point. Want less travel want a crisp trigger? That's your baby right there. Later post talks about weight. Second stage weight is control...

Re: Steyr LP50 trigger

There is definitely a video on setting the second stage, involves cocking, screwing the sears setting screw until it drops the hammer, then backing it off half a turn. Google it, called something like setting the trigger on lp50.

Re: Shooting Lens

As for varifocals/progressive focus lenses, for shooting? You want to remove the variables not increase them. How will you know that you're looking through the same bit of the lens each time. By looking at the foresight. If it is in focus and crisp, then I'm good to go. With a regular lens, you can...

Re: Shooting Lens

What I cannot understand is not trying it when you own one. Fair point - I bought one a few years ago, but before it arrived my coach, an ex World Class shooter, explained they were the work of the devil. So it was cast to the back of the cupboard. I have not reached world class, but have shot in a...

Re: Shooting Lens

I have an iris, but never used it. BUT Rover is right, what I want is the perfect prescription to focus on the front sight. And that is the problem, -0.5 is too weak, -0.75 is too strong. I can shoot with either but I am working hard to focus. A lens in between is what I want, but not found a suppli...

Shooting Lens

Hi, Has anyone ever tried a varifocal lens? I am trying to get one made to try as I always seem to be between prescriptions - so am in the process of having a varifocal made to suit. But before I finalise the design - has anyone been there and done that? Any advice? The top will be -0.75 and the bot...

Re: Free pistol ammo

Any target ammo is fine, not supersonic hunting ammo. Cci standard velocity at £50, or Lapua XACT at £300 per thousand are both ideal. Don't get hung up on pistol ammo, you have a 12 inch barrel on a free pistol, so rifle ammo is fine. Pistol ammo generally is designed to work in short barrel sport ...

Re: Pistol barrel harmonics?

Short answer : No

Longer answer : Absolutely Not.

The physics of this are probably quite interesting, but if the weights are fixed, then any effect will be consistent and change to impact point corrected by sight adjustment.
