Re: The Late Great British Pound
If you want to take advantage of the pound taking a nosedive then you'd be better off buying things that are made in the UK with little/no requirement to buy stock/ingredients from outside the EU. I recommend buying whisky. There are some great deals to be had right now. :)

Re: F In A Pentagon
It might be a Sisyphean task, but I'd like to start pushing for shooting associations in Canada to start pushing for realistic legislation concerning target airguns. As it is a pistol or rifle shooting at greater than 500fps _OR_ greater than 6 joules means you're in possession of a firearm. With a...

Re: Walther LG400 air rifles. Pros and Cons?
That is certainly slightly irritating, but in fairness to the folks at Walther they ship an allen key set with the rifle that includes all the sizes you need.TerryKuz wrote:Only con I can think of is different screw sizes everywhere. They could have standardized screws. Not a big deal.

Re: ISSF Report - Summary of IOC Sports Department - ISSF Mt
I don't have any real statistics, but I have been shooting since I was a little kid and from my observations over the years is that less and less people every year aren't involved, interested, or care about growing the shooting sports. Yes many people in this country are buying more guns, but most ...

Re: ISSF Report - Summary of IOC Sports Department - ISSF Mt
Response from the international rifle community when the ISSF changed the rules for rapid fire pistol in 2005, causing thousands of .22 short rapid fire pistols to have "no resale value": *crickets* To be honest, I don't expect the pistol side of the ISSF world to spend much time trying t...

Re: ISSF Report - Summary of IOC Sports Department - ISSF Mt
Yes, and they manage to shoot that way without moaning about the "need" for special clothes to avoid injuries! Their courses of fire are usually much shorter. Look, we can keep going down this conversational cul de sac for as long as you want, but if you want ISSF rifle to be pretty much ...

Re: ISSF Report - Summary of IOC Sports Department - ISSF Mt
A predictable response. But, if you got rid of the special clothing, the rifles would evolve to be lighter and the positions less stressful on the body. But to get to that point you need to get all the people currently competing to replace every single piece of gear they own (and all bar the rifles...

Re: ISSF Report - Summary of IOC Sports Department - ISSF Mt
I know that no one here wants to hear it, but I think if you want to improve viewing, ditch the jackets and pants. It might improve viewing, but it would put large numbers of competitors at a higher risk of serious injury. Personally, the costs of the clothes kept me from steering my kids into the ...

Re: ISSF Rule Interpretations
Can you elaborate on the no tape on the butt plate? I didn't see it since it was at a competition I wasn't at. As I understand it he had a piece of tape on his buttplate to mark where it should be adjusted for another position. That was probably an overzealous RO/Jury member but it's always a matte...

Re: ISSF Rule Interpretations
The three "fingers" coming off the bottom of the Anschütz 9015 Precise stock look like something to work around the "chest rest" rule. I thought they'd be banned in a later rule revision but what I heard was that they're going to move to a measurement box style of control for the...

Re: ISSF Rule Interpretations
Thanks for those observations! Is adding or removing a weight ok? Like a forend rail weight They're totally OK, at least for 50m. I have a MEC Stabilizer weight bar projecting out the front of my stock and it didn't get a second look. It got measured at ISCH, but other than that it has attracted ze...

Re: Anything better than moleskin for a cheek rest?
I need to add something to my cheek rest, my face gets sweaty and gets slipery on the rest. Anything out there better than moleskin. I use non-skid tape designed to be put on steps to prevent slips/falls. Similar to skateboard tape. It's not 100% as comfortable as I'd like, but it works really well...

Re: ISSF & Prone
What can be done to develop prone position avoiding an arms race? Em, isn't competitive rifle shooting pretty much the definition of an arms race? :) Seriously though, let's all be honest with ourselves. The cost of the rifle is not the biggest problem in terms of access to the sport. If you're sho...

Re: Ammo question
We badly need a scientific method to quantitatively establish the physical laws. I'd love this, but I don't think it's achievable. For one thing, you can't treat individual shots (or even strings of shots) as independent trials in the statistical sense. Fouling, barrel temperature and (over longer ...

Which statements are so grossly inaccurate? The first point about the judge & sharia law was a gross misrepresentation of the truth. He made some comments that were a lot more subtle and nuanced, related primarily to mediation in family disputes. The headline pictured was from The Sun which is ...

Re: ISSF World Cup Prone - Clapping during Final Shots
The big exceptions I make is that vuvuzelas, air-horns and other artificial noise-makers are just obnoxious things carried by obnoxious people who should be thrown out. Agreed 100%. They ruin the enjoyment of the final for the other spectators, even if you ignore the effect on the finalists themsel...

Re: More Elite Scorer headache
I am not convinced that they need to be halfway as expensive as they are. They're relatively low volume items produced in countries with a high cost of living. Yes, they could probably be made cheaper but probably not by much. A lot of it would be tied up in IP. Open Source hardware & software ...

Re: Prone rifle to be removed from olympics
The actual rule changes won't be published until 2017, if previous cycles are anything to go by. That's not quite true. The electronic versions were available:- November 2012 for the 2013 rules November 2008 for the 2009 rules September 2004 for the 2005 rules November 2000 for the 2001 rules With ...

Re: Prone rifle to be removed from olympics
The earliest there could be anything firm about this will be at/after the ISSF meetings scheduled for 29 Jun - 2 Jul in Moscow. Before that, it'll be all rumours and conjecture. I don't expect to hear anything really reliable until after the meetings in Munich in November. The actual rule changes wo...
