Re: Off hand hold and rifle cant
I no longer use twist, seem to shoot better with weight over my feet, but I still push the hips forward enough to balance the rifle weight. Its not only stock adjustments, do the same shooting silhouette.

Re: Spotting Scope Eyepiece Magnification Question
With the Kowa 821 using the zoom it depends on the magnification setting I'm using for the conditions and if I can get the scope set where moving my head brings all bulls into view. I try to position the angled lens piece more below my non-shooting eye than out to the left.

Re: Getting rid of prone 8 ring wobble-how tight hold w/fore
Have run both in prone; prefer single stage for scope and double for irons. At 35x seeing even a slight movement of the crosshairs during first stage take up when the hold is dead steady is distracting; feels like breaking the trigger twice. For irons its not noticeable; just increase pressure. The ...

Re: Getting rid of prone 8 ring wobble-how tight hold w/fore
But the finger shouldn't be tense because the reach to the trigger is too long or too short. Relaxed until you start to press the trigger is a better description. I've experimented with Ballard set triggers and the Anschutz configured so light that mentally they become difficult to break. I prefer ...

Re: Getting rid of prone 8 ring wobble-how tight hold w/fore
I disagree with the advise of using a lower powered scope . It is not the scope that is making the rifle wobble. It is your position. Good Luck Its not always position, sometimes its mental, physiological, or technique. Best position in the world won't help if you are out of shape, ate a big meal, ...

Re: Getting rid of prone 8 ring wobble-how tight hold w/fore
For older shooters it usually works out better to learn your position shooting scope, then move to irons. I've seen experienced shooters send older folks down the irons first path and they get frustrated. For juniors its best to start with irons. 60, if your eyes are healthy, is not too old for iron...

Re: barrel block rifle question
Some of us still enjoy shooting 100+ year old Marlin Ballard, Stevens 44 1/2, and Winchester 1885 designs; old school quality.

"This is what becomes of teaching a boy to read." Add a curious open mind with a healthy scientific skepticism and forming the correct questions becomes nearly as important as discovering the answers. Remember that Einstein succeeded by making the problem simple, something he learned from ...

Also make certain you are focused on the point of aim on the target and not the crosshairs; opposite of irons.

Re: barrel block rifle question
Mike Ross had a different result from a small test; nothing conclusive but interesting.

Re: barrel block rifle question
To achieve positive compensation there needs to be consistent vertical barrel vibration. I have not run the tests, but others have reported that overly thick barrels or ones clamped to eliminate muzzle vibration do not perform well.

Re: What rifle
I have a thing for Annie's, from a 1972 1407 to a 2016 54.30 and everything in-between. I'm a prone shooter, not benchrest, but 40x's and 52's and their clones seem to dominate 22 benchrest (50 yards) in the US. If you plan to compete with the big boys attend a few matches as others suggested. The 2...

Re: How often to clean my bloop tube?
Clean mine before every match. A 12 GA wire brush works well on metal, but I use a 12 GA mop on carbon fiber with Hoppes then dry it with paper towels.

JIm, Whatever has clear vision (eye centered) and is repeatable. Keep in mind changes to position height, body angle to the line, forend thickness, stock cant, sight/scope height, cheekpiece shape/height/offset/angle, buttplate position... can effect eye alignment and cheek pressure. I fought it for...

Re: light weight or heavier weight for small bore rifle
Mark, I remember that discussion. It's a very specific topic that has nothing to do with smallbore shooting, and is unlikely to represent the views of the British contributors to this forum. It is certainly not evidence that Brits are trying to limit rifle weight. Do remember that British full-bore...

Re: light weight or heavier weight for small bore rifle
At one time the Brits were suggesting we limit rifle weight so there must be an advantage. Mark Mark, You have mentioned this before, but without reference. Where have you got this idea? Not certain I can find the reference. If my memory is correct it was proposed followed one of the International ...

Re: light weight or heavier weight for small bore rifle
We are all different, but I like as much weight as I can support without muscle fatigue. At one time the Brits were suggesting we limit rifle weight so there must be an advantage. For the Anschutz 2213 I added stock weights. I loaned a pair of weights to a friend a few years back and the next week h...

Re: Anschutz 54.30:a big improvement over the 2013 ?
I bought a 54.30 out of the first US shipment. It is very accurate. Since I've shot 1913's for years, the K500 would have introduced too much of a learning curve. Some feel the 54 round action is inherently more accurate than the square; never owned a 2013 so I can't judge.
