Sure that initial crappy SF target isn't just match nerves? At the level of shooting you say you are at, I doubt that the clean barrel has much effect on your scores. I will probably bring down the wrath of some on the board, but IMHO, a lot of the stuff I hear about pistol accuracy--matching ammo t...

I agree that the raked angle is better for most of us, but it sure is amazing to watch a top notch .45 shooter chew up the x-ring with one of those primitive, American-style unraked 1911's!

DES 32-U again

Hello, I recently dug out my Unique DES 32-U, with which I used to wax the diehard .45 shooters in my CF bullseye league. Great gun! I've never had problems with it, but now I'm a little alarmed when I read the reports of cracked slides/frames on the forum. Where do the cracks occur? Is this a perva...

You will be at a great disadvantage with a revolver, even with a red dot, IMO.

osp/gsp

Hi,

Anybody know if an OSP 2000 upper (barrel/slide) will fit on an older (mid 80's) GSP lower (frame/trigger unit)?

Hello, I went from a 41 to a Benelli 95 with upgraded trigger unit and grips, making it essentially a 90. Much more reliable than the 41, great ergonomics, but VERY different rolling trigger. If you can find a 90 at a good price, I'd go for it. Some people denigrate the Benelli, but I thought it was...

gsp and gsp expert

Hello,

Anybody got any opinions on the GSP Expert vs. the older model? I'm thinking of trading in my 1986 model for an Expert and would value some first-hand experiences.

Julien,

Not that you asked: I think compensators on FP's are a horrible idea (they spread groups, get dirty and so on).

But what I'd like to know is--since I'm not a RF shooter--why DID they prohibit ports in RF guns, the one place they really make sense?

I have an old 41 with this muzzle brake. Keeping it clean is an uphill battle. I simply took mine off. Muzzle brakes tend to spread groups anyway.

I shot one of these excellent guns in my NRA bullseye league for a few years--the .45 guys called it a "wimp gun" of course, but I laughed all the way to the bank.

Never have had any problems with mine; my load is 1.6 gr of 231 under a Speer 98 gr HBWC.

Re: GSP expert

I've been shooting a GSP expert since last May. One season in our local outdoor league, and almost a full season in two indoor leagues. Still haven't cleaned it, still no alibi's! Before I bought the expert, I used a mid 80's vintage GSP, as does my wife. We use SK standard plus. I get it from Cham...

My old 1986 vintage GSP even does fine with cheapo CCI standard velocity.

James,

Thank you, very good information. I've had a lotta grips in my time, but never Rink or Nill (except some old Nills for a S&W K-frame).

Best,

If you google "target timers," you can find the website of a fellow in Canada who makes five-bay AP turning target systems. I don't own one, but I did buy a little gizmo that gives audible range commands from him awhile back, and he was easy to deal with and the product, while not cheap, i...

Rink vs. Nill?

Hi, I'm looking to replace the factory grips on my 1986 vintage GSP with something more modern (with fingergrooves) and well, snazzier. Anything to choose between Nill and Rink? Yes, I should try 'em both out and make an informed choice, but I won't have the opportunity to do that. . . Thanks, Bill

Fred, I've had poor luck with the CB stuff. It seems to vary greatly from lot to lot, or even box to box. I had some that wouldn't function my OSP; then some that would; then some that was horribly inconsistent, with some rounds that seemed to be as snappy as 0037, and some that I was surprised made...

Fred,

The Aquila is a little softer than the CCI 0037. It cycles my gun every bit as reliably. As far as accuracy is concerned, it's absolutely sufficient for my level of mediocrity. The stuff seems OK, and it's cheap.

Eley Priming

Hello, Now that .22 short RF pistols are passe, I own one (OSP) and shoot it constantly. I mostly use CCI Target (0037) but managed to get ahold of some Aquila. As you probably know, it is Eley primed, with that familiar superglue odor. The stuff seems somewhat dirtier and grittier than the CCI, lea...

I have a Benelli 95 upgraded with Model 90 grips and trigger unit. Although it is not my favorite pistol, it is without a doubt the most reliable .22lr pistol I have ever owned. I don't remember EVER having a stoppage with it.

While not exactly germane to your topic, I've had a DES 32-U for years now and can attest to the very high quality of the pistol. Despite the RF rule change, it would be a great pistol to own!
