Re: Toz-35 bench test
I've tested all my 50m pistols (Hammerli 104, Toz 35, MU55-1, Morini CM 84E) using a barrel clamp. I clamp the barrel in the Ransom Rest using blank (un-inletted) grip inserts. My aim was to assess the accuracy of ammunition/barrel combination. After that, it is up to me! I agree with David - the be...

Re: Knobloch Iris Shutter Position
A few related issues: Just like cameras, a smaller aperture will give a greater "depth of field" - ie. a longer focus range and although you will still not be able to focus on the rear sight, front sight and target, it can get closer than when using a larger aperture. The trade off is a re...

Re: Grip fitting
How do you make a blank or a fully anatomic grip totally fit for you? If putty is needed, how it is done? Go "Total Frankenstein" = my grip pictured below. There's more layers of putty, filler, epoxy-metal, sanding, grinding, filing than there are flavors at Baskin Robbins. Impossible to ...

Re: Lube for air cylinder ??
I don't think there is just one cause of this. I suspect it is a combination of screwing it on too tightly then trying to undo it when the ambient temperature is different (in my experience, I charged it up and screwed it on in the afternoon (warm) then could not remove it the next morning (cold). T...

Re: Free Pistol 50m target height
From my searching on this, I read that the target centre should be 75cm from the ground with a variation allowed of +-50cm. Could someone explain why, while other disciplines (10 and 25m) are 140cm? Thanks! Remember that's the height above the level of the firing point floor, not the ground level a...

Re: To lock open or not....?
Yes William, very interested. I'd prefer lock open. How the gun behaves after the last shot has exited the barrel seems to me to be immaterial. Bob ---except for trying to "call the shot" on the last shot of the 5-shot series. The recoil/overall feel after the last shot is very different ...

Re: Is it just me or is this forum slowly dying ?
Our club closed the indoor range for several months due to COVID 19. That left the outdoor range, which is 25 yards only. A large number of people in the defensive/combat shooting crowd are convinced that you can't possibly hit anything that far away, and stayed home. Others showed up occasionally,...

Re: Hämmerli 100
My first free pistol was a Hammerli 101. Apart from the grips and the rear sight, nothing was adjustable. I assume the 100 is an earlier version. Do you really need a manual? Maybe you are like me and just have to have the manual!

Re: Compensator design
I am interested in learning and experimenting with compensators design, but I couldn't find a technical (meaning, with numbers and equations) article discussing how to design one from scratch. The ones I see advertised in various places look bogus and snake-oil. Not sure if anybody here can answer ...

Hornady 22LR Ammunition
Just new to Australia. What is known of this ammo? I'm interested in the standard velocity (1070ft/sec) product for training and for new pistol shooters because the price is right. I'll have to buy a brick of it to test the functionality and accuracy in our target pistols. Has Hornady "tooled u...

Re: Meaning of center hold
It's an area hold if you let it be. One problem with a center hold is that the center is a precise point. Lots of people will try to too hard to get lined up at that spot, and will either hold too long trying to make it perfect, or yank on the trigger as it passes through the middle. It also tends ...

Re: Does anyone shoot 60 shot AP using Point of Aim.
Fluorescent sights are no longer permitted in ISSF either. [/quote] David I realise that this is getting off-topic but... I had not heard of this. The ISSF rule is: "Only open sights are allowed. Sights using fiber optic, light enhancing or reflecting color surfaces are prohibited. Optical, mi...

Re: LP10 Issue
No! Not a lemon - just a minor problem. It worked well for 5 years before it had the problem (that I let go on for too long hoping it would self correct). I knew the problem was the regulator because I swapped it with my wife's regulator and her pistol then had the problem and mine didn't. Being the...

Re: Does anyone shoot 60 shot AP using Point of Aim.
I don't like the term "point-of-aim because there is an assumption that I am aiming at a "point" and I'm not. I treat the black on the target as an aiming "area". I prefer the term, "centre hold". Pedantic, but there you are! I started shooting ISSF matches and sho...

Re: LP10 Issue
I had an identical problem with my LP10, although changing cylinders had no effect. In a competition match, the first 1 or 2 sighting shots went under the target with a sound/feel of an under-powered shot then the next 2 or 3 shots climbed into the 10-ring then stayed there (I made it shoot many 9's...

If it really goes wrong: http://www.formgriffe.de/en/shpSR.php?sfC=free-pistol&A=80&p1=400&p2=255 OR http://www.morini.ch/download/12.pdf Likewise, not cheap but the Large grips are nearly perfect for me (except they were too long and contacted my arm above the wrist - easily fixed.)

Re: Basic Range Safety....
Much tougher here in NSW, Australia.
New shooters must complete a safety course and have one-on-one supervision on the range.
Also, the RO must be on the range to handle situations such as the one described here.

Re: how to shoot duel
1) I believe in a rapid lift (but not so rapid it causes movement of your upper body/head), but about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up to the target, start slowing down to coast into the target and stop with no overshoot. My goal is to subconsciously break the shot at the moment my sights arrive at the cen...

Re: Using 10m target for the 25m
Stupid question: If you suggest to use bullet-size containing formula for scoring rings, then bulls-eye size must be taken from simple formula (e.g. 200*10/25=80 cm for resizing 25m target to 10m) and be bigger than 7th ring to keep the same angular size for sighting. Is it right? The answer of 80m...
