Re: CMP Smallbore at Camp Perry 2018?

Shot at both Camp Perry and Bristol. At Camp Perry there is more space to set up a tent or canopy but there were times when you ended up in the moguls or had no cover on the firing line. Bristol has good cover on the firing line but little space for a canopy or tent. Otherwise the big difference is ...

Re: Smallbore at Camp Perry?

You know there has been some talk that the ATA Grand American move to the Cardinal Center because of the financial problems in Illinois. That consumes two weeks in August. Probably will not happen but anything is possible. It is sad how the NRA highpower rifle competitions have greatly reduced atten...

Re: Smallbore at Camp Perry?

I just want to shoot smallbore wherever it is held. In my neck of the woods, it is pretty much Louisville in mid-May, Lima in June and July, Michigan in June and August, ORPA in June, Bristol in July, and Manassas in September. Eight events and sometimes these have conflicting dates. If the CMP offe...

Re: Anschutz accessory on non-Anschutz accessory rail (walth

I think the rail on a Walther is a little thicker than an Anschutz. I bought an Anschutz bipod for my Walther KK300 and I had to file the groove on the bipod to make it wider so it would slide onto the rail.

Re: KK300 too much rifle for a novice?

I have been shooting an Anschutz 1913 with the 1918 aluminum stock (not the precise version) for 5-6 years and bought a KK300 rifle in July, shot one match with it, and here are my comments on the Walther. Sights The expert sight set that comes with the rifle is nice and I can see better through it ...

I used to trapshoot a lot and developed a flinch that adversely affected my standing in highpower rifle matches. I had to stop shooting trap all together and then it took about five years to get rid of the flinch. Dry firing did not help at all because the flinch would appear during matches when you...

Talk to Rick Sarver who works at Champion Shooters Supply or Carl Jooss at CSS. There are matches at Lima Sabres, ORPA at Camp Perry, MRPC, Louisviille Rifle and Revolver Club (mid May), Capital City Gun Club in Williamson, MI (Michigan Rifle and Pistol Association), and matches in PA. There are oth...

I was looking at some of the older posts on rimfirecentral.com and the accuracy of the WZ-78 seems to very be good for some people. I assume they were using a scope with good ammo. It seems that you need 500-1000 rounds through the rifle before the bolt is less stiff and the rifle becomes more accur...

Target dot reticles

I have a Leupold EFR scope with a target dot reticle. I want to have them swap out the reticle for one with a larger dot. What are my options for sizes of the dot? Sometimes it is difficult to see the dot so I was thinking perhaps one twice as big would be good. Your thoughts? Not sure what Leupold ...

I have several but have yet to shoot one. Look under Military Trainers on rimfirecentral.com. From what I have read, they are nice shooters. The trigger is adjustable but not a match trigger. The groove for the scope seems to be different - 13mm, I think. The sights are removable. The surplus dealer...

First sighter shot wide left

On my wife's Anschutz 1913, the first sighter shot is wide left and then the second shot is where it should be. The first shot can be as wide as the 5 ring and the second can be in the X ring. I was trying to find reasons why this might happen - fouling, cold barrel, etc. It seems to do a little bet...

I went to Camp Perry today to pick up my CMP score cards and stickers. The NRA building is completely closed down and I did not see any scores posted. You will notice that even www.nrablog.com has not been updated with the final results. And the metric results have not been posted from several weeks...

Who won NRA prone smallbore championship?

I left Camp Perry Thursday before seeing who won the prone championship. NRA's web site does not have the latest scores from Thursday. Who won?

Seems like NRA's web site stops getting updated at some point and stays broken for a while. Do they even realize it is not updated?

Picked up packets this morning and it was painful. I arrived at 7:45am and wanted to pick up my wife's, my son's, and my packets. My wife and son had to work today. In-processing opened just as I got there so I got the wrist bands for the 3 of us easily. Went over to the NRA building and there was a...

CMP in processing (welcome center) opens at 7am. http://www.odcmp.com/NM/IPSchedule.pdf But not sure when the NRA building opens to pick up your packet. I live within a 2 hour drive of Camp Perry so I am going to drive up Friday morning. While there, I will try to get phone numbers, opening times, a...

Squadding at Camp Perry

Smallbore prone starts Saturday morning at Camp Perry. The trouble is I can not get there until that morning, so is there a way to get my packet and target assignment ahead of time? I tried calling the NRA entry number this morning but only got voicemail and they did not call back. Any advice or spe...

Nearsighted - what do you use?

I am very near sighted. For smallbore, I am using a pair of Decot shooting glasses I bought when I used to do trapshooting, and I have a 0.5 diopter on my front sight. The Decot glasses are not really that great for prone shooting since it seems like I am looking through the top left edge of the gla...

First two days of Camp Perry smallbore prone

On Sunday, we had a good southwest wind and sunny skies. Scores were down due to the wind. They are using targets from Kruger in Germany and they are thicker paper which means two things - they tear easily and the hole you see is pretty much what it will plug. Some of the masters are down at the wes...
