LP10 long vs. compact-what say ye Scott?

I've been reading about velocity, lock time, etc about the the Steyr LP10 vs the compact version. The specs indicate the same velocity. What is your take on this. Is it a matter of personal choice whether you want to shoot a standard length pistol or a short one?
