Re: Rear sight with corrective diopter?

If you do decide to try a variable rear diopter, borrow one first. Some shooter's use these very successfully but other have trouble. Mike Barron

Re: Anschutz bedding screw torque

There is no "correct" answer. For best performance you have to test with your ammunition from about 25 inch pounds on up about 45 in a wooden stock. MB

Re: Advantages of clear sights

If you have ever shot service rifle e.g. the M-14 or AR you have a pretty good idea of the benefits of the tube front sight vs. an open one. It's certainly possible to shoot very well with either one but I think that correct sight alignment with the tube is easier for a shooter whose practice time i...

Re: Anschutz 1913 vs Walther kk300?????

This is a Ford v. Chevy or Cadillac v. Lincoln question. Almost all of the major makers produce good rifles. It's really a matter of which one fits you best and gets your heart throbbing. MB

Re: pretty good scores with Air Rifle, Small Bore not so muc

Don't be discouraged. It's very typical for a junior to be a year or two behind air rifle with his or her smallbore scores. But if you had access to a 1503, it probably would be better for her. Mike Barron

Re: Let's talk about aperture sight options.

If you plan to shoot outdoors, I think you should give some consideration to how much of the view forward the sight blocks. It's important to be able to see wind flags and many rear sights (like the Anschutz) do not give good visibility forward.

Re: Opinions on best smallbore rifle

I suggest getting in touch with someone on the UAF team. One of them may know of a former team member who wants to sell his equipment. Whatever he/she had been using would probably be a good fit for you. Also, the make of your rifle isn't as important as your getting started in smallbore. Your 580 i...

Re: Walther 500

After I posted this question I googled the Walther 500 and found a website that must have been a German supplier. It quoted a price of 4200+ Euros for the 500. That translates into about $4,700 US and I think that that price also included a 21% tax. So if the US price may be around $4000. MOB

Re: Is "No pulse" sling Worth the extra $$

I have been very skeptical of the no-pulse slings. But recently I started using one instead of the Thune 40mm that I've used for many years. In a couple of Midrange matches (600 yds.) I shot more Xs than I normally do so I've continued to use it. The sling is a Jensen.

Re: muzzle jump to the left

IMO muzzle movement, whether it is movement before the shot or afterwards, is very difficult to diagnose under any circumstances. With my own shooting I decided long ago to stop worrying about it and to concentrate on a consistent position and a good NPA. MONB

I'm told that centra makes a post front sight element for the 22mm front sight. I don't know whether it's engraved on glass or the typical metal skeleton. Mike Barron

Re: Smallbore programs within driving distance of St. Louis

You already have the names of people to call concerning the outdoor matches. Bucksnort does have a 3P match in September. Harold Miederhof runs that. There have been indoor 3P matches in Alton and Highland during the winter but the fellow who ran them moved to Idaho. If you were interested enough to...

I'd go with the Anschutz parts from Champion's Choice. They permit horizontal adjustment as well as vertical and I think that is essential. Mike Barron

NEW BARREL?

A shooter with real US Olympic Team prospects has decided he needs a new barrel for his 1913 mostly because his prone scores haven't been what he expects. He's considering something a little offbeat - Benchmark 3-groove with 16 1/2 twist. Anybody have any comments? Mike Barron

Re: sight picture

I've never talked with any shooter who noticed what you are seeing and this includes shooters who regularly make rear sight elevation changes of 20 to 40 minutes. It's probably an eye problem but if you've fixed it so that you can concentrate on the aperture's inner ring, don't worry about it. Mike ...
