We were a tiny bit surprised when our Running target coach switched to Pistol.

How about THIS switch:

"China's first Olympic gold medalist and head coach of the gold-laden shooting team was named at the end of 2004 a top official of Chinese fencing and cycling, the two sports which closely missed Olympic gold in Athens."

(full article in english)

Xu HaiFeng won China's first gold in LA in '84 in 50m Pistol

"It is a big challenge for I know little about cycling and fencing," said the 47-year-old Xu

This oughta be interesting

"A top official" might not be the same thing as "Coach."

Also, management expertise (required for a "Top Official") and knowledge of the discipline (required for a coach) are not necessarily mutually exclusive . . .

. . . although it appears they generally do not seem to overlap much . . .

the skills of management, coaching, and performance might fall into the category of "You only get so many blessings in one life." Therefore, maybe we shouldn't expect a lot of overlap between world class CEOs, Coaches, and Competitors.
