I was listening to All Things Considered this afternoon on the radio, and they had story about Muslim women competing in the Olympics, and the various dress codes imposed by the Arabic nations. It mentioned a Iranian gymnast, who was unable to compete in that event because of clothing restrictions, and the only sport that she could compete in with full body clothing was... Air Pistol. I wonder what kind of score she fired, if she had any background in shooting at all, where she got her MQS. I guess I need to go look at the scores and an ISSF News with Athens MQS's listed. Anyway, heres a link to the story, the full audio clip hot-link is just below the title Muslim Women Break Barriers to Reach Olympics

Muslim Women Shooters
In 2003, Marilyn and I both shot World Cups in Zagreb Croatia and Munich Germany. There was a
pistol team there from Qatar, which had about 5 woman on it. 3 for score and 2 MQS's I would guess.
Anyway, they shot in their full black robes and head-gear. We didn't see the rifle team shoot, so we don't
know if they had one or what they wore. Rumor had it that they put leathers on over the robes, but like I
said, it was just rumor.

Marcus and I were in Wiesbaden a few years ago at the DSB. They have a hotel, restaurant and range next to their headquarters. At breakfast, we met the Iranian women's rifle and pistol teams. We watched them shoot that morning. The women rifle shooters wore their jacket, pants and boots for all three positions. Over their shooting pants, they wore a long wrap around skirt, which did not restrict their movement in the shooting positions. Of course, they wore their head covering. The pistol shooters wore their normal robes and headcovering. They were being coached by the resident coach and their female coach from Kyrgystan. Some spoke German and/or English. One young woman, who spoke English, was very excited to meet American coaches and asked us to stick around and coach them. Unfortunately, we were leaving that day and could not stay long. Besides, I do not like to step on another coaches toes.
