I visited the local Harbor Freight Tools store today and found what looks like it might be a good deal. They have an Elecronic Hearing Protection headset that they are selling for $24.99 USD. These are not stereo and only have one microphone but do have a speaker in each ear. The brand name is Power Aisle and called "Over & Out". These are a fold-up type set that have translucent ear cups but not tapered like the Peltors. I've never heard of the brand, but a search on the net shows that they also produce other shooting supplies such as bench rests. Harbor Freight does have a website (www.harborfreight.com) with direct sales and lists the headset for $19.99. The Harbor Freight item number is 46798 . The Power Aisle model number is 71501. The NRR rating is 27 as a passive muff. The electronic attack attenuation is 85db.
