Question for the Coaches

I plan on trying a new discipline this fall and have the opportunity to train with a coach who's resume of accomplishments is as long as his arm. Over the last several years in trying to improve my marksmanship, my training has been based on books and YouTube videos. Because I've never worked directly with a coach, I'd like to make the most of our time.
From a coaches perspective, what makes someone coachable?

listening and being willing to give something a try.

Following through and committing to your coaches advise. Journaling and periodic retrospectives to ensure you are on the right path to success.

In my opinion the number 1 thing that makes someone coachable is that person recognizing that they want or need to work with a coach. The student is much more likely to be receptive and adaptive which, as mentioned by the previous posters, is key.
Since you have that box checked make sure to enjoy the services of the superlative coach and be, so to speak, like putty in his hands.

While you made reference to a coach who is a dude the above is applicable. If you continue your journey, be open to a coach that happens to be a dudette. Especially in smallbore and air rifle there are a number of girls out there putting the guys to shame.

dude, the OP wrote “as long as his arm.” I think he already found a coach. If he had not, your comment would have been appropriate and correct. In shooting sports a coach’s gender is not indicative of their abilities.

Thanks for the replies, everybody. I'll do my best to stay humble and willing to learn.
Since I've never had formal training in this discipline, I'm looking forward to time with a coach who is knowledgeable in the new sport. And of course, there are several people, regardless of gender, that I'd happily take pointers from... This person just happens to live semi-close and offered their services for a few hours over the next couple months before I dive into my first match.
Thanks again!

If you read my intro clause, I noted that OP has specifically identified the male gender.

Okay then. If you hadn't quoted me to begin with, for some yet to be determined reason, we wouldn't be here right now. I'm done
