Alignment: removable barrel shroud

Hi
Looking for some advice.
My Son has an early Air Arms MPR (Multi Purpose Rile I know AA sells this as the multi positional rifle now but ours actually has "purpose" written on the side).
For a recent Sporter competition we had to remove the barrel shroud, ( I've not yet found anywhere in the spotrer rules that require this but they would not let him pass control with it) so we now have a problem realigning the foresight with the rear sight as the shroud does not have a way to index it to the barrel.
So does anyone have any suggestions as to how to align them in a predictable way, like a jig of some sort?
TIA
