Hi to all,
I leave my IZH 46M at a very humid region. There are signs of rust. Any tips and advice regarding removing the rust and further maintenance.

The rust looks mild at this point. First thing I'd try is to just rub it with an oily cloth. That may remove most/all of the rust you see. Come back with more photos if that doesn't fix the problem.

As for preventing it in the future, wash your hands to remove sweat salts before handling the pistol. Wipe it down with a lightly oiled rag before storage. Don't store it in a porous foam lined case. Get a dehumidifier or seal it in a bag with good desiccant packs.

I've had good results using these to prevent cracking of wood chess pieces They're not expensive and generally last about six months inside a wooden chess coffer.

Be aware those are intended to produce a constant humidity level to protect wood. I think you are more interested in protecting metal. In which case 0% humidity helps more then 50% humidity. I have a similar humidity problem with guns kept in my long-arms safe. The pistols are stored in impregnated fleece Bore-Stores obtainable online from www.borestores.com in the US so are protected though I have a rechargeable Remington silica-gel dehumidifier in there too - the pistol safe.

For my long-arms I've tried all sorts of solutions but seem unable to rest easy - small heating element, seals around the door, wardrobe dehumidification packs and now I'm waiting on delivery of some Zerust capsules. I have humidity monitors in each safe and on the outside of one. I try to maintain a level of 50% or below. I understand that the NRA museum in Virginia maintains its fantastic collection at 50-55% humidity and 70degF tempearture.

After all that, a wipe-over with an oily rag or a silicone impregnated gun wipe each time the gun is put away is a very good idea.

PS We had a number of these pistols at our club for a while and they did appear to be rust magnets, especially the rear sight adjustment plunger.

Wipe it done periodically with oily patch or a rag, whether it needs it or not. Eventually it will build up a protective layer as oil coats dry up. That and avoiding the obvious exposure to sweaty or wet hands will be enough to keep it rust free. The best rust preventative in my experience is Break Free CLP, but that can effect the seals. Great for firearms and probably can be used on outside metal of airguns.
