Air and not CO2

Something suddenly occurred to me the other day.
I have been shooting my walther lp400 for the past 18 months using air from a drive tank.
Does it matter that it's not co2?

They should be using compressed air, and not CO2, right?

CO2 pistols are very different to compressed Air pistols.
They work in very different ways, and are NOT interchangable.

The LP400 is a PCP pistol; not a CO2 gun.

The original Hammerli 480 manual said either could be used. I am not sure how they made that possible. I always used compressed air in mine.
I think if your regulator is set below the pressure of Co2, it could work. I just don't know why anyone would want the deal with Co2 when they could use air.

You certainly don't want to try 200 bar air in a CO2 pistol. As long as the liquid CO2 stays below the regulator in a PCP pistol, the vapor pressure is around 70 bar, and the regulator should work. I'm not sure how well the typical regulators would react to have liquid CO2 sloshed through them.
A pistol like the Hammerli AP20 with the tank mounted vertically might work OK.
Fortunately, the fill adapters for CO2 are different on the tank end, so it's not something anyone is likely to try by accident.

The Crossman Challenger rifle is both pcp and CO2. I'm not certain how one switches between them, but it is clearly possible in the same unit.
