World Cup New Delhi 2021

I was watching the just concluded World Cup in New Delhi yesterday on YouTube. Some of the athletes wore masks during the entire time competing, others did not or started the event wearing a mask only to remove it at some point. The air events were, of course indoors. Range officers made certain that the competitors put a mask back on after being eliminated or after the obligatory photo of the medalists. This made little sense after they were standing in competition with no mask. In one of the air rifle finals, there were plexiglass screens between the firing points that were perhaps five or six feet high by perhaps three feet wide. Perhaps this will stop large droplet contamination, perhaps totally ineffective. I did not see these screens in the other three air events. The audience was masked except when eating or drinking. Social distancing in the audience was not consistently adhered to.
I did not catch any commentary as to what the masking and/or vaccination requirements for competitors were. It struck me that the masking was pointless if the competitors were not going to wear the masks all the time. The only competitor who did so, that I recall, was an Iranian female air pistol shooter. With what we know regarding aerosolized Covid viral spread, especially indoors, and with the emergence of more easily spread Covid variants, I wonder about the anti-viral rules and their enforcement in New Delhi.
The Olympic organizers in Japan announced yesterday that no foreign spectators, including competitor family and friends, will be allow into the country to spectate at the Olympic games that are going to be held this Summer.
On the plus side, the US went Gold and Silver in the Women's Air Rifle event.
