USAS Return to Play and Event Updates

Post by USA Shooting »

USAS Return to Play and Event Updates (June 1, 2020)
The USA Shooting Board of Directors (BOD) held a special closed meeting for only BOD members and select USAS staff on the morning of June 1, 2020. Part of this meeting included a decision on events for July and August as previously promised by June 1, 2020.

The USAS BOD agreed upon a return to play on non-protected and voluntary events beginning July 1, 2020. These events include but are not limited to: State Junior Olympics, and PTOs. USA Shooting will provide additional information before the June 24th public BOD meeting that outlines recommendations and regulations regarding these events.

In addition to this return to play decision, the USAS BOD voted to implement a 60-day “go” or “no-go” notice of protected competitions. Protected competitions include those that involve a selection procedure.

The disclaimer that if a “go” decision is decided following the 60-day implementation regarding a protected competition, any additional information or new developments regarding COVID-19 could potentially reverse this decision to a “no-go” within the 60-day timeframe.

Smallbore Selection Trials Part 2 is tentatively scheduled for October 7-11, 2020 in Ft. Benning, Georgia. Based on the above mentioned 60 days' notice, we will have additional information and a “go” or “no-go” decision by August 7, 2020 regarding this event.

Shotgun Junior Olympics and Shotgun Nationals are potentially and loosely planned for the month of September in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The USAS BOD and USAS Staff will survey the community over the next couple of weeks to gather input and finalize planned dates for those protected competitions.

USAS will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and any developments and will update our community on any evaluations and communications at least every 30 days and more frequently should more information need to be communicated.

Thank you to our community for your patience and support as we evaluate the USAS return to play plan and its policies. The safety of our athletes and staff is our first priority and we thank our community again or your patience as we develop our roadmap forward to ensure a safe and competitive environment for our athletes, coaches, parents, and other members of our shooting community.
