USA Shooting Air Rifle Olympic Trials Part II Day 1 Report
Colorado Springs, Colo., February 8, 2020
Day 1 of Air Rifle Trials Part II was full of excitement, competition, and great shooting.

In the men’s Air Rifle, Lucas Kozeniesky (Southern Pines, North Carolina)is coming out of Day 1 with a leading overall total of 1886.8. This total score reflects his Olympic Trials Part I overall score plus Olympic Trials Part II Day 1 score. Other notable athletes include Matthew Sanchez (Tampa, Florida) who broke the Junior National record today with a score of 627.5, only .1 point from Kozeniesky’s Day 1 total. Will Shaner (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Ivan Roe (Manhattan, Montana)are sitting in second and third place with their overall totals of 1879.0 and 1877.1 respectively.

Mary Tucker (Sarasota, Florida) is holding the lead in the Women’s Air Rifle with an overall total score of 1881.3. In second place overall after Day 1, Alison Weisz (Belgrade, Montana) has a total score of 1880.9. Both Tucker and Weisz posted Day 1 scores of 624.9. The highest score of Day 1 belongs to Ginny Thrasher (Springfield, Virginia) with a score of 626.5. Thrasher has a total overall score of 1876.5 which sits her in fifth place going into Day 2.

The action continues tomorrow with the second and final day of the match where athletes will try and make it one step closer to securing their spot on the Olympic Team.

After tomorrow’s relay, the top eight men and women based on Day 1 and Day 2 combined scores who qualify will compete for finals points. This cumulative score will be combined with the participant's score from Trials Part I (Winter Airgun Championships) which took place back in December 2019. The combined score will determine the Olympic Team.
