Two-Way Ties Atop Standings Entering Final Day of Skeet at Shotgun Olympic Trials
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 20, 2019)
Saturday’s final day of competition at the USA Shooting Shotgun Fall Selection, 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Kerrville, Texas, is set up to be an exciting one, with both the men’s and women’s competitions having two-way ties at the top of their respective standings.

Three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock (Fort Worth, Texas) missed just one target on Friday to move into a first-place tie with Colt McBee (Brady, Texas). Both shooters have hit 198 of the 200 targets they’ve faced over the first three days at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center.

Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas) sits two shots back in third place with a score of 196, while Dustan Taylor (Liberty, N.C.) holds down fourth place with a 194 total. The only shooter to record three perfect rounds on Friday was Hayden Stewart (Columbia, Tenn.) who vaulted from 14th place up to fifth with a score of 193. Currently battling it out for the sixth and final spot in Saturday’s finals are Nic Moschetti (Broomfield, Colo.) and Frank Thompson (Alliance, Neb.), both with 192 points through three days of competition.

Knotted at the top of the women’s standings with 192 points each are Austen Smith (Keller, Texas) and Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Fla.). Smith had the best three rounds on Friday, hitting 73 of the 75 targets. Behind the two leaders are a couple more two-way ties for third place and fifth place. Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colo.) of the Army Marksmanship Unit and Samantha Simonton (Gainesville, Ga.) sit in third place with 191 points, while six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode (Monrovia, Calif.) and Caitlin Connor (Winnfield, La.) are tied for fifth with 189 points. Two shots back and looking to break into the final top-six on Saturday is Haley Dunn (Eddyville, Iowa).

Competitors will face their final 50 targets on Saturday before the open finals featuring the top six athletes in the men’s and women’s standings. Finals winners will receive three points added to their score, while the second- and third-place finishers will receive two points and one point, respectively.
