Moschetti, McBee Post Perfect Rounds to Lead Skeet Portion of Shotgun Olympic Trials
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 18, 2019)
For the first time in their competitive careers, Nic Moschetti (Broomfield, Colo.) and Colt McBee (Brady, Texas) both shot perfect rounds of 75 to open up the skeet competition at the USA Shooting Shotgun Fall Selection, 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Kerrville, Texas, on Wednesday.
Moschetti and McBee were part among a group of 11 men to post scores of 73 or better, creating a logjam atop the leaderboard after the first of four days of competition at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center.
Sitting one point back is the trio of three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock (Fort Worth, Texas), Dustan Taylor (Liberty, N.C.) and Mark Staffen (Lewis Center, Ohio). The six shooters who are two targets behind after opening day rounds of 73 include Will Thomas (West Des Moines, Iowa), Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas), Frank Thompson (Alliance, Neb.), Eli Christman (Hixon, Tenn.), Alexander Ahlin (Bamberg, S.C.) and Christian Eliott (Greenwood, Ind.).
In the women’s skeet competition, six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode (Monrovia, Calif.) finds herself tied for the lead with Samantha Simonton (Gainesville, Ga.) after both shooters opened with rounds of 73. Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Fla.) and Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colo.) of the Army Marksmanship Unit are one target back of the lead, followed by Caitlin Connor (Winnfield, La.) and Austen Smith (Keller, Texas) who shot rounds of 71 and 70, respectively.
Competitors will face 50 targets on Thursday, 75 on Friday, and another 50 on Saturday before the open finals.
