Mein, Browning and Carroll Lead After Day Two of Shotgun Olympic Trials in Kerrville
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 11, 2019)
After 125 targets and two days of trap at the Shotgun Fall Selection, 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Kerrville, Texas, Derrick Mein (Paola, Kan.) enjoys a three-target lead in the men’s competition while the women’s event has co-leaders between Kayle Browning (Greenbrier, Ark.) and Ashley Carroll (Solvang, Calif.).

Wednesday’s competition at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center featured challenging shooting conditions with persistent wind and intermittent rain showers for the majority of the day. Lighting also played a factor with the sunlight constantly changing due to the cloud cover throughout the session.

Mein had two solid rounds in Wednesday’s tough conditions, hitting 47 of the 50 targets for a two-day total of 120, putting him three points ahead of Will Hinton (Dacula, Ga.) of the Army Marksmanship Unit and four in front of 2008 Olympic Team member Dominic Grazioli (San Antonio, Texas).

On the women’s side, Browning finished the day with a perfect round, tying her with Carroll atop the standings with 114 targets each. Madelynn Bernau (Waterford, Wis.) sits three points back and Rachel Tozier (Pattonsburg, Mo.) of the Army Marksmanship Unit is four behind the co-leaders.

Competitors will face 125 more targets over the next two days (75 on Thursday and 50 on Friday) before the open finals on Friday. Finals winners will receive three points added to their score, while the second- and third-place finishers will receive two points and one point, respectively.
