Winning Ways Continue For Carroll/Haldeman as Mixed Team Trap Champs of Spring Selection Match
TUCSON, Arizona (March 4, 2019)
Ashley Carroll and Derek Haldeman pictured here during the 2017 World Championships. Already individual champions at USA Shooting’s Spring Selection Match in Tucson, Arizona, the duo of Ashley Carroll and Derek Haldeman earned another title as Mixed Team Trap gold medalists Monday to finish off the trap portion of competition from Tucson Trap and Skeet Club.
Carroll (Solvang, California) and the U.S. Army Marksmanship (USAMU) soldier-athlete Haldeman (Sunbury, Ohio) were second in Qualification behind the duo of Kayle Browning (Wooster, Arkansas) and Brian Burrows (Fallbrook, California), 141-140. In the Finals, Carroll and Haldeman would prevail, 45-41, to secure victory. The two will pair together at the upcoming World Championships in Lonato, Italy, hoping to improve upon a terrific bronze-medal podium showing they had in 2017 in Moscow, Russia. On Sunday, Browning finished third in the individual standings while Burrows was second to Haldeman.
Bronze medalists would be Julia Stallings (Rossville, Tennessee) and Grayson Davey (Anchorage, Alaska). Stallings finished sixth in the women’s standings while Davey was bronze medalist in the Junior Men’s competition as well. The other Finalists would include Jake Wallace (Castaic, California) / Corey Cogdell-Unrein (Eagle River, Alaska), Logan Lucas (Pacific, Missouri) / Carey Garrison (Crossville, Tennesse), Austin Odom (USAMU/Benton, Arkansas) / Aeriel Skinner (Jackson, California) and Mick Wertz (Muncy, Pennsylvania) / Emma Williams (Savannah, Tennessee).
The Spring Selection Match continues Wednesday with the start of the four-day competition in Men’s and Women’s Skeet. Look for the full Skeet preview Tuesday.
