Morini 162 cylinder repair

I have 4 cylinders dated 2001. All of them leak now. Being that they are more than 10 years old, no one wants to fix them. I don't compete anymore so the dates don't bother me. No one has new cylinders in stock or I would buy new ones. In the mean time any suggestions on repair and making these cylinders useful again ? Three of them leak from the gage end while on the scuba tank. One fills properly on the tank but slowly leaks while on the gun.
I can get a fair amount of shots, but the cylinder will empty itself sooner rather than later.

I saw that. I called them and it’s an older dated cylinder. Not current production.
BTW, had there actually been a case of cylinders exploding ?

My cylinders may be out of date according to somebody, but not according to Morini. The cylinders are stamped 20 year max.

Open the back of your cylinders. Pour in a little epoxy resin down the tube and let harden. You didn't need those manometers anyway.
To the other guy: Yes someone hurt their hand when they broke off the fitting with a wrench.

Yes, exploding air cylinders is how they blew up Jaws.
We're headed towards a DARWIN AWARD on this thread somehow.

I understand the problem with keeping cylinders in stock. They lose value, over time. No business wants to stockpile anything that will lose value each day it sits in stock, and, is in low demand.

Apparently, yes. There was a recall last year of a certain date range. The vast majority (all?) were inspected, deemed safe & returned. The failure analysis pointed to corrosion caused by a combination of holes/scratches in the annodizing, and probable exposure to chlorinated gun cleaning solvents. I communicated with Morini to see if they felt any any additional steps by users could prevent any further accidents. They were kind of touchy on the subject, and basically said to clean them with a soft cloth, and keep gun cleaning chemicals away from them.

Sounds like a manufacturing issue more than a stress over time issue.

You might find
this lab report interesting.
They blamed it on the use of chemicals.

Thank you David, that helps to clear things up. I was under the impression that the issue was due to repeated cycles of filling and emptying. This is a case of user negligence.

No pin spanner wrench required to get into the AT.
Just a table vise and old drill bits with diameters 2.5 mm and 2 mm, 2 of each.
Dump out all air from AT with supplied de-gasser tool.
Place back ends of the drill bits into two holes, place bits protruding outwards into vise and clap down tightly.
Turn AT body to loosen, wear a pair of surgical rubber gloves may also help.

Rover, I view cylinder repair the same way I view reloading- if I am the one taking the chance, it is on me and all good. If others have the potential to be harmed by what I am doing- no go.
