Rhode Golden Again, English Wins Bronze at ISSF World Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (April 28, 2018)
Six-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode won her second World Cup gold medal in a row this year with her win in Women’s Skeet on the penultimate day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.
Rhode (El Monte, California) bested her own world record in the Final by two targets (58/60 targets from the 56 that she set en route to her win at the World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico in March). This win marks her fifth medal in a row on the World Cup circuit as she also medaled in every World Cup in 2017, as well as winning the World Cup Final.
“I am amazed it just keeps going and I am trying to ride that wave, one world cup after another,” Rhode told the ISSF. “I couldn’t be more thrilled, it has been an amazing competition at a beautiful range, here in South Korea.” The Changwon International Shooting Range where this World Cup is taking place will also be the host range for the ISSF World Championship August 31 – September 15 where all of the U.S. Women’s Skeet athletes in this match will once again compete.
Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colorado), who took last year off to enter the Army, showed her strength today, enduring an additional 30-target shootoff for placement in the Final on her way to the bronze-medal win. Though she and Rhode had each secured a spot in the Final with their finishes (119 hits for Rhode and 118 hits for English), they had to shootoff for bib numbers with Rhode losing four targets to five to eventual silver medalist Amber Hill of Great Britain where Rhode entered the Final in fourth. English hit an additional 30 targets to beat Katiuscia Spada of Italy to enter in fifth. English had 44 hits in the Final to claim the bronze, her second World Cup medal since her gold-medal win at the World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2016.
Caitlin Connor (Winnfield, Louisiana) was just one target out of a potential Finals berth with 117 hits for 12th place.
Rhode was also presented today with the 2017 ISSF Female Shooter of the Year award. Read more about that honor: http://www.usashooting.org/news/2018/1/ ... federation.

With one day left at this World Cup, the Men’s Skeet competition saw the completion of its second of five rounds today. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock (Eatonton, Georgia), who also won gold at the World Cup opener in Guadalajara, has hit a perfect 50/50 targets. Phillip Jungman (U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit/Caldwell, Texas) has hit 46, Dustan Taylor (USAMU/Staley, North Carolina) has hit 48 and Christian Elliott (USAMU/Greenwood, Indiana) has hit 49 targets.
