Looking for a 3 position air rifle

Post by grouse316 »

My son (12) shoots air rifle at our local club and has REALLY gotten into it as of late..more so than before. We are looking to get him a 3pos air rifle..but really do not know other rifles besides the Daisy 887. Are there other options? Is he better off with his own Daisy vs. others? Thoughts please!
Thanks in advance...JJ

The Crosman Challenger 2009 is probably the best sporter air rifle out there.

This is probably the best deal as it comes with the newer, precision type diopter set that is about $125 if bought separately.

The Crosman Challenger 2009 seems to have dethroned the Daisy as the top sportster rifle.
But it is also more expensive than the Daisy 887.

If you can afford the Challenger 2009 + accessories, I would get it.

For sporter the field is pretty much in this order.
Air Arms T200 (Wood stock runs on compressed air looks like a precision rifle, priced at the upper limit to be considered a sporter)
Crosman Challenger (Does what its supposed to do, runs on compressed air and CO2)
Daisy 887 (Works but has bugs due to the temperamental nature of CO2, least expensive)

If your club is a CMP member you can look at buying the Daisy or the T200 from them. I don't see that they have any Crosmans listed right now.
Daisy/Gammo is developing a new sporter to compete with the Crosman but there's no telling when they'll have it ready for sale.
