Shortrange/longrange scopes

Hi,
I recently bought a second hand optimate 38x44 scope to shoot in anysights competitions at 100 yards.
Scope works fine at 50 but doesnt seem to have enough adjustment to get to 100 yards.
The elevation turret has a vernier gauge which goes up to 6, and the instruction manual says it has adjustment of 1/8" per click. It has paralax adjustment for 25-400 yards (alhough thats probably not relevant)
Have I inadvertently bought a short range scope, and is there anything I can do? I was wondering about using some shims in the scope mounts so it is no longer level to the barrel to force some elevation but not sure if thats a waste of time!
Any suggetions welcome - chalk it upto experience?
Cheers
Justin
