Pellet/shot management

Post by JPK »

Any ideas how to help new shooters keep track of what bull they are shooting at and to keep it one per bull? I have some youth that are always losing track.
Thanks,

Have a wood block for ammo with holes in the same pattern as the target bulls.

If you aren't doing so already, have an order to the record fire shots taken. Not sure what targets you're shooting but I've found that almost never is 1,2,3,.... etc. the best order. For 3p we shoot 2,9,1,4,6,8,3,5,7,10. Saves a little time adjusting NPA if you shoot columns instead of rows. Shooters should be checking shot placement after each shot. As was said earlier having your shaker box or other pellet holder set up with the record fire loads in order is helpful for new shooters.

An easier shooting pattern is making the smallest change from bull to bull, and ending with #3, as it is closest to the second posted target if shooting paper targets for a 60 shot match (3P).

We shoot sighters, then 3, 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 7, 5, 3. The only disadvantage was the old rule using the last shott (#10) as tie breaker, but that is long gone.

Using the block or shaker set up in the target pattern is the real key.

GHSA shoots a 30 shot 3p, but I can see your point with a 60.

Shotgun primer trays can have pellets laid out in the shape of the targets
