Can anyone tell me if this is an air pistol that can be competitive? How is the quality?

At what point, performance level, or score should an air pistol shooter use a higher grade pistol?

The way you shoot bullseye, a serious air pistol is a solid investment.

Buy once, cry once; thank me later.

I'd recommend a Steyr LP50 (multipurpose), LP10 (or I guess the EVO is the new hotness? I haven't been in the market for almost a decade), or Morini 162EI (?).

I own a FAS 604. I had it resealed and have had no problems with it. I've developed a technique to keep from pinching my hand when closing the barrel after the pump and load. Loading the pellet is a pain due to the lack of space between the barrel and shroud. Very good trigger. I believe there have been posts the newer 6004 have had problems.

Unlike the excellent FAS 604, Chiappa’s mass production effort with the 6004 stumbled out of the gate and tarnished the FAS name. Typically, the 6004’s breech-to-port spacing is too tight which can mar the port face. Also, the breech chamfer might need smoothing to prevent blow-by with some varieties of pellets. Neither of those tweaks are difficult. When I get motivated, I’ll post a thread with some pics of the fixes, and info about an o-ring upgrade. If you want the information before you make a purchase, PM me. It is still possible to get a good 6004 out of the box, just look before you buy. The FAS is a lot of brilliant AP engineering for the money, and the simplicity of an SSP is worthwhile.

Note that Rink’s adjustable grip for the 6004 is much better than the OEM item which is too narrow. The 6004’s OEM ambidextrous grip is surprisingly well designed, stable holding, and very comfortable. I think Rink is now also making an ambi grip for the FAS.

At what point should an air pistol shooter use a higher grade pistol? When you consistently shoot many more 10's than 9's.
