elbow angle

I am new to shooting a pistol with only one hand, so let me apologize in advance if my question seems foolish.
What angle should your elbow joint make with the floor when your arm is extended with the pistol, assuming that the pistol is not canted. By this I mean if I bend my elbow to 90 degrees should the pistol point 1) directly to my left 2) at a 45 degree angle high left 3) directly at the ceiling?

Does this angle affect the way the front sight will rise when a shot is taken. i.e. will the sight tend to lift high and left if the elbow angle is at 45 degrees or lift clean and high if the bend of the elbow joint is parallel to the ground?

I would like to know if one of these is better and most importantly, why.

In order to minimize straining your elbow joint, the elbow should be as you described in situation (1) or (2).

I think it all depends on your physiology, as I would be #3 and have had very little history of elbow problems, even despite doing stupid stuff like shooting full-power hardball starting at age 14.
