Safety Indicator

Post by Lenny »

If I take a piece of blue weed-whacker line, make a loop at one end and push the other end through a bore. Would that be sufficient safety indicator for an air pistol?

I presume you've seen the first part of ISSF rule 6.2.2.2:-

"Safety flags constructed of fluorescent orange or a similar bright material must be inserted in all rifles, pistols and semi-automatic shotguns at all times except when safety flag removal is authorized by these rules. To demonstrate that air guns are unloaded, safety flags (safety lines) must be long enough to extend through the full length of the barrel."

Can your blue line be described as "fluorescent orange or a similar bright material" ?

No need to make a loop (although it wouldn't do any harm), just make sure it sticks out both ends of the barrel by about 4"-6" so that it can be easily seen at a distance.

I already have a roll of blue line and it's very bright. I know orange and yellow are the traditional colors for safety flag, I didn't know it was in the rules.

Blue, green, red, etc. are perfectly fine. Loops, flags, tips, bows, etc. are unnecessary.

What counts is that they are visible to the RO and pass completely through the barrel.
