"frozen" adjustable rear iris for rifle

I have several adjustable rear irises, like the Gehmann 510, that have become completely locked up and unable to be adjusted, even with two pairs of pliers. Any ideas what causes this and how I might be able to fix the problem? I assume that penetrating lubricant is not the way to go.

Gehmann irises have a 30 year warranty. Send them back for service.

Tho if you have used pliers on them they are now probably egg shaped and beyond repair.

My understanding, is that over time contaminants like moisture, dust, and pollen can accumulate between the leaves of the iris. I frequently see folks using the small cans of compressed air to clean out the iris.

The reply I received from Gehmann:

Thanks for your mail.
If you have access to an ultrasonic bath, you can just put the 510s inside together with water and some detergent.
Let it work a few hours and then remove the water with compressed air.
Should work fine, that is what also we would do...
