Walther GSP .22 Question

Hello,

I have a Walther GSP .22 and it occasionally fails to pick up a round from the magazine. Other than the a potential weak spring in the magazine are there any other possible causes?

Thanks, Paul

Weak ammo.
The slide doesn't came all the way back.
Grit and dirt have the same effect.

Hope this helps

As well as the probable causes put forward by rmca there is also the chance that the slide return spring is a tad too strong. If this is the case it sometimes will work with punchier ammo which pushes the slide further back allowing pickup of the second round.

We had a batch of new SP 20 Hammerli pistols that exhibited the same problem and could only be corrected by having weaker slide return springs made.

Try some higher velocity .22 ammo first to see if the second round is then picked up. If not, you could either purchase a new slide return spring to try, followed by shortening the spring slightly if needed.

Worth trying if you run out of more simple fixes.

- what ammo?
- which magazine: is it only one magazine, or both (it came with two?)
- does it happen if you borrow a magazine from another shooter?
- is the magazine clean (both INSIDE and out) and lightly lubricated?
- have the magazine lips been damaged and/or misaligned? Check for any burrs on the inside of the lips.

Definitely start here.

Hello, thanks everyone for their input.

- I am using Norma TAC 22 (aka RWS) amunition.
- It is infrequent, but and I am yet to relate it to one particular magazine.
- The magazines don't appear to damaged or mis aligned.

Thanks for the tip on cleaning and oiling, I'll give that a try.

Thanks, Paul

two more bits on the magazines
- they don't work well if the spring is the wrong way round
- old and well-worn OSP magazines can develop wear marks/notches from the cross pin in the slots
