What problem is it supposed to solve?

The Dillon 550b primer bar is quite nose heavy. It slides on a plate that fastens underneath the primer drop tube, strictly a friction feed.

When that plate gets dirty or gritty the primer bar tends to hang up. Sometimes even when clean, it will not reliably and smoothly feed the primers into the cases.

Some people have done a home fix that extends the back of the plate so it supports the entire primer feed bar rather than just the short shelf under the primer tube.

This product appears to have both an extended plate, but also the side ball bearing which might keep the bar squared up under the primer drop.

This appears to improve functioning.

Another thing that helps, although tedious is to deprime your brass, and then clean with a steel pin wet washer like the Thumbler, before reloading.

It keeps the primer gunk from building up on the machine, and causing it to stick.

Ok, thanks. Yes, the primer bar is not the best part of 550. Keep us posted how this new one works.

Just ordered one. It won't break the bank.
Will let you know what I think about it.

Do that.

Will you be shooting at Columbia in two weeks?

Well yesterday I received the parts in the mail, and installed it.
All I can say, is, the operation is a lot smoother. The new bar is highly polished.
It certainly gives the primer bar a lot more support.
Comes with detailed info.
I only had time to run off 5 rounds just to test it.
Maybe someone will make a polished stainless primer bar, then it can be flawless.
Not sure the roller works or not, if I set it up to just touch the bar, it binds.
So I set it so it's just a paper width off the bar.

A further update,
I contacted the fellow that makes the parts, and within an hour got a reply.
He gave me detailed info on how to correct the problem.
Low and behold, the primer support for the rod that moves the ram back and forth was installed with the wrong position.
Now I have a real smooth primer system. It runs like glass.
I am thinking this is why I got so many miss feeding primers, and flipped primers.
I just loaded 150 rounds with no hitches.

Thanks TrooperJake, You have inspired me. I struggle more than anything with that darn primer system. I think I will order two, since my credit card closed out a few days ago.

Just a question, does the guy who makes this only sell through eBay or is there a way to contact him directly? I ask because I haven't used eBay in years.
