Anyone import pistols from Europe?

Still been looking for my first pistol and heard that the pistols are a lot cheaper over in Europe. Been browsing egun.de a bit and they do seem to be a bit cheaper once converted to USD but not sure how much shipping would be, maybe $50 I guess. For some reason the egun.de web site won't translate properly so I can't read full descriptions. I noticed many European web sites include the VAT in their pricing, not sure if the egun.de prices do or not.
I also read where if you travel to Europe and bring a pistol back you can get the VAT refunded however I guess you'd have to pay some sort of US tax. Does the same hold true if its shipped?
Anyone have experience importing air pistols or rifles?

Another used gun site based in the UK is gunstar.co.uk. I had communicated with a couple folks that were willing to investigate shipping to the states.

Greetings,
I was going to bid on a Haemmerli SP-20 conversion unit. They were able to sell it to me; but, the fees and paperwork would cost an additional 400 Euros!
I cannot imagine the cost of importing an entire pistol.
Cheers,
Dave

Reading a bit on the thread above the fees shouldn't be too bad. If they specify it as a air pistol there shouldn't be any import duties. They also void the VAT taxes. On gentleman in the thread indicated that once all is said and done you basically get the pistol delivered state side for the same amount of dollars as the euros listed. So if it is listed at $1000 euros then after the VAT is refunded shipped and everything you'd pay $1000 usd. I'm considering the Steyr LP2.

most people on egun are non-gunshops. Many wont sent outside germany, and most, if not all, not outside EU
