What is the best way to clean the bore of a Morini CM 162 EI? The barrel does not break open like a spring gun, and cleaning a bore from the muzzle is to be avoided.

I have felt pellets. I know that may recommend firing cleaning pellets through a spring gun is not advised as a felt pellet may not provide enough resistance and the piston may go too far forward and be damaged.

Will firing felt cleaning pellets through a PCP damage the gun?

For that matter, will firing a PCP pistol with a charged cylinder but without any pellet damage the gun?

Simple....don't clean it.

Shooting a PCP without a pellet will blow the gun apart, wounding if not killing onlookers, and you would certainly lose your hand.

Actually, a cleaning pellet won't hurt a thing and neither will shooting a PCP without a pellet.

If accuracy does not suffer, there is no need to clean the barrel. However, if the pistol is not used for an extended period of time, it is necessary to clean and lubricate the bore to prevent rust. I use a crown saver to clean my airguns.

I have to agree with Rover, the steel used in air gun barrels is very soft, This enhances the bore's surface finish but makes subject to damage. While felt cleaning pellets won't damage anything, cleaning of the bore is unnecessary. I have found no difference in grouping at 15,000 rounds or in a clean barrel.

PCP guns are not harmed by firing without a pellet or a felt pellet, spring guns on the other hand are. If your gun takes a air cylinder, co2, or is a pump up gun, your good.

The VFG cleaning system is what I believe is depicted in the book on Olympic Pistol Shooting by Reinkemeir & Buhlmann, and that actually was what triggered my question (no pun intended). I looked online and found mostly rod-based kits.

Where can the VFG cleaning system be purchased?

Three guys just told you not to bother with cleaning; why would you pursue it further?

If you just MUST, I have found that breaking the end off a Q-Tip and shooting it will do the job VERY cheaply.

A VFG superintensive clean is part of my annual maintance for airpistols.
Also I clean, lube, check trigger and absorber , change working O rings,
oil/seal the grips, check wiring and circuits of electrics, then machine rest test
with chronograph for velocity.
I know very little leading occurs in a air barrel but I am also amazed at how much
it takes to get that small amount of lead out.
I think it makes a difference.

Which returns after about five shots. Chasing it is futile.

You go through all that effort and you "think", but don't KNOW whether bore cleaning makes a difference?

I usually fire half a dozen felt pellets through every 4-5 months, or every 4000-5000 pellets.

First felt pellet usually has a bit of CorrosionX Aviation on it - don't think that does any harm. Probably a bit pointless too.

On the subject of cleaning I usually give the following a wipe with CorrosionX Aviation once a fortnight on the basis of what I have seen rust on other club guns (Morini 162)

* Exterior of the barrel
* Back of the frame (steel part against wood)
* Grub screws which hold the barrel in.

Have to be careful cleaning the "air pistol", you need to treat it like cleaning a regular high power pistol.

Two days ago, a teenager arrived in our operating room, shot by a reported "BB" pistol through the abdomen while cleaning the air pistol.

We were looking for a small "BB" in the abdomen. It turned out to be a 4.5mm diablo pellet shot through a low power air pistol. It torn through iliac vein, lodged on the outside of aorta. Turned out to be a bloody mass for such a small diablo pellet. 4 liters of blood loss once we got through with him.

Be careful while cleaning your air pistol. If you got shot in the belly, pellet will penetrate your abdominal muscle, intestine, blood vessels. It might not come through the other side. But it DEFINITELY will penetrate deep inside your peritoneum.

Unfortunately, many people still treat and consider airguns as "toys" and don't take the necessary precautions when handling them. ALL accidents can be avoided if we follow the three basic safety rules:

1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

You even want to be careful with the felt cleaning pellets (to get back on topic...). I discovered the hard way that they will blow a chunk out of the bottom of a fairly sturdy plastic waste basket.

I don't know anyone who cleans his/her air gun, even our national team doesn't do this..
