I am in the middle of replacing seals on one of my IZH-46M. Took everything apart, unscrewed the cylinder. Replaced the valve seal and reinserted both bushings. So far, so good.
The problem I run into is with replacing the cylinder (or chamber) packing ring (part #35). The new one that came with the seal kit is just a regular O-ring, while what I had in there before is kind of flat seal with a bevel to match the edge of the cylinder. I assumed it started out as a regular O-ring and took shape of the gap when squeezed in to place.
I tried screwing back the cylinder over the new O-ring and the cylinder will not screw in deep enough to line up with the holes for the cross pin that locks the cylinder.
Does anyone know if a different packing ring was used on older IZH-46M?
If not, how do I get the new O-ring to fit?

You can just hope part #35 never deteriorate.

NO amateur I know were ever able to get to that deep dark hole. No one.

It wasn't too difficult to take it apart. I would rather replace that packing ring while everything is apart, but if the O-ring in my replacement kit is a wrong part, I will have to reuse the old one.
Still would like to know if there were two different packing rings used in that pistol or why this O-ring was included in the seal kit. My pistol was bought around 2001-2002, seal kits few month ago.

Is it possible that the seal needs to be lubricated to work its way in properly when assembled?

I did that, it didn't work.

Does the original packing seal have the same dimensions of the new seal kit o-ring? If they are the same, you could try to slightly soften the o-ring with a heat gun/hair blower and then work its way in to place. If that doesn't work, an o-ring that is a wee bit smaller than the original might work, lubrication causes the o-ring to swell and seal the gap.

Do not torch your IZH !!!

If you deform/ partially melt that O-ring, and you can not get to that O-ring (No One ever did), you are really screwed.

Do not use a torch please.

I was thinking of something like that. This can be done before placing it inside the pistol. Old and new seals are the same dimensions, just different shape.

I used the torch to unscrew the cylinder per instructions that someone wrote on pilkguns.com website.
Just enough heat to warm it up. It didn't effect the seals, which I was going to replace anyway. Am I the first to get to the valve seal or packing ring?
That deserves some kind of award.

Too late for pictures. I decided to reuse the old packing ring. It was still tight and everything touching it is stationary. Will see how it comes out when I finish reassembling the pistol.
I followed the instructions below, except I also removed the bushing (part#32) by driving out a pin. It made removing the old seal much easier.

From the above link select Baikal, then IZH-46, then click on the first link under Maintenance at the bottom. He also reused the old packing ring.

Update:
Reassembled the pistol and the leak is gone. Can't hear anything. Old packing ring appears to be holding up. Looked under the magnifying glass at the old inner valve seal and noticed a few cracks around perimeter of the hole. This was the source of the leak.
Now to the best part. After I wiped off all that grease around the valve parts and re-lubed with Pellgun oil, the trigger break became very smooth, just like on my other IZH-46M. It was kind of jumpy before. No matter what I did I couldn't adjust it to be as good as on my other pistol. Now it feels the same.
The original seals were 13-14 years old and they feel more like plastic then rubber, when compared to the fresh seals.
