During the initial arm lift, at certain point of my arm lift/ extension, I can feel the latissimus dorsi muslce get involved.
Recently I made an effort to get this latissimus dorsi consciously involved during the arm lift stabilization, and this effort of feeling that muslce is involved made a significant improvement in my shooting. I contribute that solely to more effort in involving this muscle. But more than the score, the whole shooting process was just more stable when I consciously involve this muslce.
Can someone discuss the involvement of this large muslce in stabilization of shoulder/arm/pistol? How to maximize its potential?
I feel like it is the equivalent of rifle sling for pistol shooters.

All I can tell you is that when I was younger, I was in a car accident and injured my lat on my right side. When I shoot now (over 20 years later) that muscle balls up and causes a lot of pain. What I'm trying to say is that, apparently for a pistol shooter, the lat on the shooting arm side is completely involved in the process.

It seems to me the the latissimus contribute in 2 ways.
It's insertion is at the top of the homerus and puls at 45 degrees towards down.
So the horizontal component will pull the homerus backwards towards the glenoid ( the shoulder cavity) thus stabilising it.
The vertical component contrasts the upward pull of the deltoid. This too stabilise...unless the two muscles start fighting one against the other spinducing vertical shake.
But I an no expert .

One more thing.
I guess it also pulls a bit the arm backwards, which in my case would be beneficial, as the longer I aim the more my arm moves towards the front

So basically whe we contract it, the arm and the spine, I.e. The torso tend to become a single unit.
