I recently bought a Feinwerkbau C10, as some of you may know. It does make quite a crack when fired, and is easily the loudest air pistol when I take it to my club, by a country mile. It says in the user manual that I should be getting around 180 shots per charge, so I tested this, and it does. I am thinking of taking it to a gunsmith to have the muzzle velocity checked and adjusted, if needs be, as you can get into a lot of trouble in my country if a pistol is over 6 Lbft. What is the ideal muzzle velocity for a pistol like this? I'm guessing around the 550-575 fps mark with 7 gr pellets?

For what it's worth, I have the previous to the C10 CO2 air pistol, the FWB Model 2, which has a velocity range of 425 to 525 fps.

I have adjusted it with H&N Sport 8.0 grains pellets to shoot at 490 fps (150m/s).

You may wish to start from there and see if this particular velocity suits your model with the ammo you are using @ 10m.

I have shot mine out to 25m, 30m and even 50m on a calm day (from a rested position) and although the POI drops quite a bit at those distances the groupings remain tight nevertheless, which is an indication that at the above velocity the pellet spin and bbl harmonics suit each other with that particular ammo.

Testing different pellets helped me find the best velocity, rather than the other way around.

Thanks for the help. I'm only shooting at 10m. I couldn't find anything on Google regarding muzzle velocity for my pistol. I'm mainly using RWS Hobby and RWS R10 Match Pistol, both of which weigh 7 gr.

Now that you're all excited, I'll tell you it doesn't matter much. Pistols such as the FAS 604 may make 400fps on a good day, and you can easily crank up a Steyr to around 600.

I did some testing (heh, heh) and found while accuracy varied slightly with velocity, it wasn't enough to really matter to a pistol shooter.

Just lower your velocity until the noise doesn't bother you. You don't need a gunsmith for that. You take off the grips and turn the striker spring tension screw widdershins.

I did just that today. Sounds much more like I think it should, and hardly any recoil at all now.
