I was taught in FP and AP one usually aims at sub six. That seems to be a very common philosophy.
However, when it comes to semi-automatic pistol, for example, STP or SP, I have no idea how you aim. There does not seem to have any general consensus. Anything from aiming at dead center to sub 6 to aiming below the entire target. So is it true that there is no rule about this..or that there is a general preferential aiming method?
PS. I have once shot someone else's B/E pistol using a red dot, I was totally confused when I was told to aim the dot at dead center.

Confused? If told that the weapon was sighted in for dead centre aim with the red dot, why not just aim the red dot at dead centre?

I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't use a sub-six area for Standard Pistol or the Precision stage of Sport Pistol.

The rapid stage is obviously different. When I was competing I used an area just below the centre. I found it easier to be consistent there than when I tried centre aiming. The former gave me more reference points.

Aiming below the target could be difficult as you will get a different sight picture at every range.

As usual though, whatever you're comfortable with.
