Title says it all: what does an adjustable Depth do for you? Thanks.

It can increase or reduce the depth of the rear sight notch to change
the visual appearance of your sight picture.
Not all rear sights have this adjustment.

Never really heard of "depth" of the rear sight.
My LP1 has an adjustment for "width" of the rear sight.
Maybe or maybe not what you were asking ?

I'm assuming you mean the difference between these two: Just like the adjustment for width that helps you tune the amount of "side gap" you want, the adjustment for depth does the same in a "vertical sense".
My sight picture is more like the bottom one, where you have a much shallower gap. It helps me level the front sight better as I tend to focus on the top of it, making the leveling with the rear sight easier.

I'm not sure how many pistols have this feature, but the Benelli Kite air pistols do have a small sliding piece that adjusts the sight depth.

Hi Clarence, I have a Steyr LP1-C; and it does have a rear sight notch

depth adjustment. If you have the Steyr LP1 manual, go to page 12

and read item 5.2 : Adjusting your rear sight. The notch depth is

adjustable from 1.5mm to 3.2mm. Loosen cover plate screws(#8) and

slide cover plate to desired position; then retighten screws.

I know it was an old post but just happened to see it now.
Yes, depth is adjustable.
After I read your post I looked at my rear sight and lo and behold that plate is notched to move up and down.
No wonder I love my old Steyr LP1p, has all the adjustments needed.
Now I have something else to mess with now :)

Unfortunately, Clarence's rear sight isn't chrome plated with tassels.

I don't know...it gets plenty "windy" around our range.

BTW I have shot AP matches outdoors.

Actually the Tassels are the Range Weather Station whilst shooting..

tassel curling : hot
tassel stiff : ice
tassel wet : raining
tassel hard to see: foggy
tassel white : snowing
tassel smoking : lightning strikes
tassel moving : windy
tassel still : not windy
tassel missing : hurricane, or thieves about
