Not much, the most popular crimp measurements people use are .469 to .471

I use .469. I also seat in one operation (competition seating die) and use a lee factory crimp die in crimping operation. I always had problems setting up the combo seat & crimp die.

The short answer is yes.
I've done extensive Ransom testing on my loads on 4 different Kart barrels in 3 different wad guns. The best crimp ranged from .470 all the way down to .465. Just depended on the brass used, bullet used, and barrel used.

In one barrel in particular (the .465 crimp) it made a 1 1/2" difference @ 50 yards.

In NRA testing, best accuracy came from a roll crimp. Some say a roll crimp doesn't headspace a .45 correctly, but the headspace is wrong anyway. Headspace on the bullet.

.469 works good for me,

I use .470" with Dillon Dies and Kart barrel. This is using commercial W-W and Starline brass. I've experimented with different crimps and tested with the Ransom Rest. Tight crimps (under .469") showed increasing accuracy loss with increasingly tighter crimps.

My 45 is a Caspian Long slide with a Kart Barrrel and I am Taper crimping at 469/470 which is in line with most of your replies

Hi Cliff, the replies to your question serve only as guides. To find the best

taper crimp for your barrel, bullet used and powder charge, you must test

differing crimp dimensions at 50 yards from some kind of vised rest.

Also, please read the John Giles link very carefully. I found that years ago

when my pistol was relatively new, The most accurate ammunition for

my pistol(10 shot 50 yard group in a Ransom Rest) had a crimp that

measured .462". I would never have been able to guess which crimp dimension

was best for my pistol without testing. I use a .469" crimp for timed and

rapid fire strings because my load is only X-Ring accurate at 25yds. This is why accuracy

testing should be done at 50 yds. This is also why I will not say what my

load specs are, because they really are not relevant. I will say that I use

The H&G 130 for slow fire and the H&G 68 for Timed and Rapid fire. Best of luck;

I am a firm believer in and use a deep crimp. Roddy ammo that I have measures .464 on a Nosler, another measures .462 on a lead H&G cast by Roddy. Both these shoot great. The Nosler did 1" for nine in my HB gun Roddy built The 10th shot made it 1 and 1/16. The lead shot 1.5 and less from the Wad gun Roddy built. Both in Starline brass.

I had a Win White box of HB ammo that measured .466. That was one of the best white box I ever saw.
