Joss Finds Gold in Thailand
One could almost say Sgt. John Joss (USAMU/Fort Michael, Ala.) is "prone" to winning medals at this rate.
Having competed in just two World Cups, Joss has earned medals in both with bronze in Turkey and a gold medal today in Thailand.
Today he claimed the gold medal in the R3 (10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed) event at the International Paralympic Committee Shooting World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. Earlier this summer, Joss - a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit - took bronze at the IPC Shooting World Cup in Antalya, Turkey in this event as well as gold at the USA Shooting National Championships.
Joss also set American regional records in both qualification and final in today's win. Read more about him on page 62 of the most recent USA Shooting News. Joss will have a chance to bring home more hardware when he competes in the R6 50m Rifle Prone SH1 Mixed event Sunday.
Mike Tagliapietra nearly found the podium in Thailand shooting 25m Sport Pistol for the first time in World Cup action.
Joss wasn't the only notable performance from the U.S. contingent today. Mike Tagliapietra (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a strong World Cup debut in the P3 25m Sport Pistol SH1 Mixed event when he finished fourth after a shoot-off loss in the bronze medal match to South Korea's Juhee Lee. Tagliapietra will be back on the line tomorrow competing in P1 10m Air Pistol SH1.
Led by USA Shooting Paralympic Coach and 1992 Olympic silver medalist Bob Foth, five shooting representatives are currently participating in the final IPC World Cup of the season. Along with Joss and Tagliapietra, they include McKenna Dahl (Arlington, Wash.),2008 Paralympian Danielle Fong (New York City, N.Y.) and 2012 Paralympian Eric Hollen (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Hollen is being recognized currently as Dr. Pepper Ten's Man of the Moment for his achievements. http://on.fb.me/16LdAcd
