Thinking about buying an UltraDot 30 mm Sight with a 4 MOA Dot, but I

don't know if it will properly fit the gun/base it is to be mounted on. For

any of you who own a current version of this sight:

1.) How wide is 1 of the included rings?

2.) The round front and rear tubes both attach to a central housing that

is rectangular in shape. How long is the central housing itself from

end to end?

3.) What is the total range of sight adjustment in MOA for both windage

and elevation for this sight? By adjustment range, I mean from one

extreme to the other.

4.) Where can one find info described in #3 above for all of the other

models of UltraDot sights? Thank you!

Let me say first that I use ultra dot for all competition optics. I choose the 1" over the 30mm but both seem to work well. I like the one inch because it comes with the rubber cup for the rear and the extension tube for the front. I want it that way to prevent water droplets on the lens if shooting in the rain outdoors.
I often choose a set of horizontal spit weaver rings over the verticle split rings that come with the dot. They work fine but I like to remove the optic when deep cleaning. Horizontal split rings go on and off with very good return to Zero.
I'm pretty sure that you will be quite happy with any ultra dot product. If desired, you can use only one mount ring rather than two. They are very light weight and when mounted properly will work fine with just one mount.
If you are asking advice, get a 1" tube. If you positively want a 30mm they do work but you will find youself wobbling your wrist looking for the dot. The 1" with extensions is such that if you can see through it, you can see the dot.

I would not use the included rings. They have a vertical split, and don't hold adjustment very well.

How are you planning on attaching the scope to your gun? Do you have a weaver or picatinny rail?

What gun to you want to put it on? Some top loading euro 22s are difficult to mount a scope on. Many American guns, come already set up for one, making it comparatively very easy.

If you want to mount it on a Pardini 32 ACP you must use the split rings because the others will hit the wood grips or the slide grips. Don't know about the other Pardinis

I have a Smith & Wesson Model 586 L-Frame .357 Magnum Revolver with

a 6 inch Barrel. It has a Weigand "Weig-A-Tinny" Scope Base attached to

the topstrap, in place of the factory adjustable rear sight. This base gets

it's name from the fact that it is a "combination" base, having both Weaver

and Picatinny features incorporated into it. The base is 4.5" long and

has 10 cross-slots machined along it's entire length. Three screws secure

it into the drilled and tapped holes of the topstrap. Here's where

a problem MAY present itself if I go to a 30 mm sight. Two of the three

screwheads are centrally located in 2 of the available cross-slots! There is

no way for ANY ring to fit into these 2 affected slots, so I only have 8 of

them left to work with. And I should also mention that the 2 "blocked"

slots are right next to each other and are located toward the back of the

base. All of this makes ring spacing is very limited here. Why go to

a 30 mm sight? I plan on using this set-up for some combat matches that

will be starting soon at my club. I prefer to go with an UltraDot as they

have worked well for me in Bullseye. I may have to go with a Leupold

Delta Point Sight, but I do not like the fact that it has an "Auto Brightness

Feature", making manual adjustments for the dot impossible. Can any

one supply the dimensions I requested? Thank you!

Just a few more things I forgot to mention in my last posting. I may have

to use the UltraDot supplied rings as they are not as wide as other

aftermarket, Weaver-type rings that are horizontally-split.

Using them may allow a 30 mm sight to still be installed, seeing how ring

spacing is so limited here. For combat shooting, I feel it is best to use 2

rings to hold the sight in place. Also a 30 mm tube provides a wider field

of view, and as this is 2-handed shooting, finding the dot after each shot

should not be a problem. I tried searching for info on the available

amount of MOA windage and elevation adjustments for all of the

UltraDot sights and could not find any. Any one have this info? Thanks.

These are the measurements from a 4 dot Ultradot. The middle is 2 and 1/8 inches. The front is 1.827 and the back is 1.456. The tube will add 1.219 and the rubber end won't fit on the extension. The extension can go on the front or rear. The stock mounts are 2.050 tall and about .595 thick front to back. Wide would I guess depend on what frame it was mounted on.

Thank you for the measurements. You stated that they were taken from

"a 4 dot Ultradot". Is your's a 30 mm sight? The one I may buy is a 30

mm with the fixed 4 MOA dot. Do the "4 dot Ultradot" sights use the

exact same 30 mm tube as the one found on the "fixed 4 MOA dot"

sights? Thanks again!

Yes it is the 30mm and I don't remember seeing any that looked different except the small and large size but don't know for sure. -- Bill --
