Hi All,
I'm planning to buy NOPTEL shooting simulator for .223 rem(AR-15) and .22LR(small bore) live fire at outdoor range of 100 yard-.223/ 50 meter-22LR.
The seller mentioned; " you can set the SUNX reflector at 10m and select the 100 yard target in the computer and live fire at 100 yards!"
This might possible because NOPTEL don't have wiring between target and sensor.
My concern is the accuracy, this live firing setup at real distance can be same results as 10 meter dry fire at indoor?
Anyone tried real distance outdoor practice and share your experience?

It's a shooting trainer not an electronic target so coincidence isn't the point of it - and I very much doubt the results would be the same but they should be fairly similar. I would suggest though you're missing a big trick if that's all you use it for.

It may be theoretically possible to set the reflector at 10 meters and shoot live at 100 yards but setting it up so your sights are in sync with the NOPTEL may be a bit tricky and you will probably find that at times NOPTEL will call the shot differently than your actual impact point. I would also worry about accidentally shooting the NOPTEL reflector target since it has to be set so much closer to the gun.

In my opinion it is a much better device for determining how good your hold is and for how long it is good and also if you are making any triggering errors than it would be for simultaneous live fire.


It seems hardly worth the bother since live fire is going to tell you only if you tense up or anticipate when the gun is going to go "bang" instead of "click"

I have a NOPTEL but have learned everything I can from it which is two things. First thing I learned is that my hold is very good for about four seconds. The second thing I learned is that if I do not shoot a 9 or a 10 within that time, I have made a triggering error (which rarely happens any more). I know rifle shooters are disappointed with 9's but with a pistol, I am satisfied that I am shooting within my hold.

My biggest sin is holding the gun up too long (admiring my hold) and not getting the trigger moving soon enough.
