Advancing JROTC Cadets and Teams Announced for the 2011 JROTC Service Air Rifle Championships - For the past eight years, the Civilian Marksmanship Program has overseen the scoring of JROTC 3x10 three-position air rifle postal competitions. These annual postal matches determine which JROTC unit teams and individual cadets advance to compete in their respective service’s JROTC shoulder-to-shoulder Championship.

Davis Tops Precision Class and Howald Sets New Sporter Re­cords at 2010 Gary Anderson Invitational 3x20 - ANNISTON, ALABAMA & CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Connor Davis, 17, of Shelbyville, Ken­tucky, cruised to victory in the precision air rifle class and Tessa Howald, 17, of Ozark, Missouri, set two new Army Junior ROTC records en route to winning the sporter air rifle class at the 2010 Gary Anderson Invitational 3x20 tournament. The matches were fired concurrently at identical CMP shooting facilities in Ala­bama and Ohio.

CMP Presents Personalized M1 Carbine to COL James H. Chis­man - CAMP PERRY, OHIO – On Thursday, 2 December, Gary Anderson, Director of Civilian Marksmanship Emeri­tus, made good on the CMP’s plan to pre­sent a retirement gift to COL (Ret.) James H. Chisman for his years of ser­vice as former Ohio National Guard Fort Ohio Installations and Camp Perry Train­ing Site Commander.

Mike Gingher, former CMP Armorer, Passes at Age 67 - CAMP PERRY, OHIO – Former Civilian Marksmanship Program armorer, Michael D. Gingher, 67, of Thorncreek Township, Indiana, died 3 Decem­ber, 2010 at Glencrest Nursing and Rehab Center in Chicago where he was admitted after an extended illness. Gingher was a CMP armorer, spe­cializing in the service of M1 Garand and AR15 rifles shortly after the priva­tization of the CMP program in the mid to late 1990s. He was considered an diligent armorer and was instrumental in assessing the quality of Danish M1 rifles and their eventual acquisition by CMP, having traveled to Den­mark, according to former fellow workers.

Joplin Rifle & Pistol Club hosts Christmas charity match - Joplin, Mo. - Every year during the Christmas season KOAM TV7 teams up with the Salvation Army to collect toys donated by area residents and sponsors for children of families that meet assistance guidelines set by the Salvation Army. This year the Joplin Rifle & Pistol Club decided to get in­volved with this very worthy cause. It was decided that a CMP Sanctioned Garand/Springfield/Vintage match would be held and the entry fee would be a toy valued at $15 or more. The toys would then be donated to the Toy­Box collection. In Memoriam - ISSF Secretary General Horst G. Schreiber. ISSF Secretary General Horst G. Schreiber departed this life at the age of 82, on Saturday, Dec. 11 2010, in Munich, Germany. Mr. Schreiber was first elected as the ISSF Secretary General in 1980 and has served continuously in that capacity since. He was most recently re-elected at the ISSF General Assembly in July 2010. Together with ISSF President Vázquez Raña, he was part of a leadership team that trans­formed the ISSF into the international governing body of a world sport with 160 member federations as well as into one of the strongest Olympic sports. His service to the shooting sport was always distinguished by com­plete, unselfish dedication to the best interests of the shooting sport and its athletes and national federations.

2011 GSM Master Instructor Workshops Announced. Ex­perienced rifle marksmanship instructors and shooters who would like to receive advanced training and be certified as “Master Instructors” to teach CMP-sanctioned Garand, Springfield and Vintage Military Rifle or Rimfire Sporter Clinics are invited to apply to attend a CMP Master Instructor Train­ing Workshop. The GSM Master Instructor Workshops are:

19-20 March, Anniston

6-7 May, Camp Butner

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites you to participate in the fifth annual Camp Perry Open. This year’s match will include a three-position air rifle competition, an international air rifle (all standing) event, a pis­tol course of fire, and an optional clinic held at the CMP Marksmanship Center – North at Camp Perry, Ohio.
