Hello everyone,

I have a small question. I want to buy the MEC Contact III buttplate and put it on my Steyr LG 10P rifle. Would it work on a 10 year old rifle or is my rifle to old. what I mean is, is there a design reason why it wouldn't work?


I sent a email to both MEC-Centra and Steyr about 2 months ago still no response.

While I cannot comment directly from first experience I am attaching pics of my MEC Contact III. Specfically the "business end" where it attaches to the stock of the rifle.

Assuming you go this route just remember that rule 7.4.2.1 states that the butt plate cannot be rotated on the horizontal axis. (or stated a little more simply, you cannot rotate the butt plate to allow for or compensate for canting the rifle) Just keep that in mind if you are using the horizontal mounting slot.

The slots in the back will readily accept the 5mm screws which are pretty common on major target rifles.

Oh yeah, my FWB 601 is a 20 year old, if I can get it on the 601 I would expect your 10 year old Steyr would be fine... but no first hand experience with the Steyr so I cannot say for sure.

I don't know if it will fit the Steyr LG 10P, but it fits a Anschutz 9003, and I also used a 1813 hook buttplate on the same carrier. So that may help by association.

I have a LG-10P and a friend of mine on the National Team has one as well, I know he has a MEC butt plate on it and I'm pretty certain it's a Contact III. I will try and get ahold of him and let you know.

Richard thanks for replying. Some friends and I are going to jump into the new CMP NMAR match Rifle catagory. As this is position shooting ISSF 10 meter rules for the class doesn't matter ,...just wieght at 12.2 lbs. I was worried that the bolt pattern was not compliant with the MEC Contact or Free Position. And poping for the MEC Free position and finding out it wouldn't work would be a bit. But since you remeber your friend having one on reassures me that it will be fine Thanks

I just read the Steyr Sport is actually partly owned by Anschutz and there big on parts interchangeability.

The LG-10 was made long before the Steyr/Anschutz pairing, but even then many things were interchangable.

I sent my friend a message hopefully he'll get back to me soon.

mounting holes on my rifle against your pics and Everything looks good. Plenty of room to mount. My butt plate screws are flat head - slotted. Will the Contact III take those or will I have to find tapered metric troxs head screws?

The drive of the screw is not really important, slotted, phillips, or torx that is just the tool you will use to tighten. The underside of the head should be flat. More attachments as picture beats words... sometimes.

Shot these almost on my way out of the house this AM. Not my best work but get the point across, I hope.

One other thing to note, this butt is about 6 mm deeper than the original FWB rubber puck. I used to use 1 spacer, I don't anymore.

I went for it and bought the Contact III. I phoned CMP for ruling and they said NO Free Position , hook BP. Funny thing was that the guy on the phone said, after listening to the details of my equipment, said: "Oh I know it will work we have a guy that was shooting last month with it on his LG10P. Went ahead and bought the MEC handstop, A Eye Glas system frames.
