Federal Gold Medal 45 ACP Recipe

Post by seattle89 »

Does anyone know how to duplicate the load in Federal gold medal .45 ACP cartridges using W231, Bullseye or Unique and 185 gr LSWC bullets?

Pick anything that goes about 775 fps. I have heard that they use Power Pistol but have never taken one apart to see if it is true. According to what I have heard it is called Bullseye 84 when it is in commercial form. Like any commercial powder they vary a bit from lot to lot so you can't take one apart and weigh the powder charge and go by that but I don't think the powder is so important that you could make a blanket statement about best powder for all guns. I do think the proper speed is very relative to accuracy.

Short Answer- No.

Longer answer- Federal uses bulk powders not available to handloaders. These powders are blended with additives to get the pressure versus time curve that Federal feels is optimum.
