USA Walks Away with 24 Medals, 5 Olympic Quotas and 4 World Records at 50th ISSF World Championship

The 50th ISSF World Shooting Championship in Munich, Germany, held July 29th-August 10, 2010, was the biggest and most competitive match of the 2012 quad. USA finished third overall in the medal standings with 24 medals: eleven gold, six silver and seven bronze.

The USA Team had 12 shooters qualifying for finals in Olympic events resulting in three individual medals and securing five Olympic quotas. The success of junior shooters was particularly impressive with over half of the 24 medals being won in the junior events with 14 medals. The U.S. Team accounted for four of the 27 world records established or equaled at the championship with new marks in Jr. Women's Team 3 x 20 Rifle, Women's 3 x 20 Rifle, Double Trap Team and equaling the world record (with final) in Double Trap.

Individual Gold Medal Highlights

Kim Rhode
Kim Rhode continues to write her own history at the World Shooting Championship-not only was it her first Women's Skeet world title, but she also won a quota spot for Team USA at the London 2012 Games. With 72/75 targets in qualification, Rhode brought experience to the final round with a perfect 25/25 targets.

Through the rain and wind, SGT Josh Richmond prevailed to win his first Men's Double Trap World Championship title. Not only did Richmond capture the gold, but he also won a very important Olympic quota spot for Team USA in 2012. A straight 50/50 targets in the final also added Richmond to the record books as he equaled the world record with 196/200 targets.

Jon Michael McGrath
Junior Men's Skeet was dominated by the USA. With the team silver also around his neck, Jon Michael McGrath proudly displayed his individual gold medal. Shooting a stellar 123/125 targets (no final for junior competition), McGrath beat Chili's Raul Franco Bostelman for the gold medal. Knowing that the gold medal was on the line, McGrath stayed focused and only dropped one target in his second day of competition.

Miranda Wilder dueled with Australia's Catherine Skinner for the Junior Women's Trap gold medal. Tied at 69 targets, a subsequent miss-out left the crowd in awe as the two echoed each other for nine birds. After Skinner's miss on the fifth post, Wilder stepped up to the line and cleanly broke her tenth target for the World Championship title.
